On Saturday 4 July Ultimo is ready to set a historic record for live music in Italy. The Roman singer-songwriter's concert scheduled for Tor Vergata, in Rome, should in fact attract around 250,000 paying spectators, thus becoming the event with the highest number of tickets sold in our country and surpassing the record established by Vasco Rossi with Modena Park in 2017.
On the eve of the show, the Roman singer-songwriter – born Niccolò Moriconi – shared a message on social media dedicated to his former self: “I will play in what will be the concert with the most tickets sold in history. I can't help but dedicate it to Niccolò. In fact, I can't help but ring the intercom to Niccolò, and look from below at the window from which I wait for him to look out.” After having complimented Ultimo, with a generous message on his social profiles under the banner of “making room for young people”, Vasco Rossi however wanted to recall in a post the historical importance of his previous record: “The legendary Modena Park will forever remain in history as the greatest rock concert in world music. An unattainable, unattainable and unrepeatable record”, writes Vasco accompanying videos and photos taken from an aerial shot from a helicopter, underlining how it was “a gigantic demonstration of love. In the end, that evening, the record had not won. The numbers had not won.
The concerts with the most spectators in history in Italy
According to data republished by All Music Italia, to date the record belongs precisely to that Vasco Rossi event, which on 1 July 2017 gathered 225,173 paying spectators in Modena Park, to celebrate forty years of his career. The singer-songwriter from Zocca is destined to make history again in 2027, when he will celebrate fifty years of career with a residency unprecedented at the Olympic stadium in Rome: ten concerts scheduled for the month of June, for an expected overall attendance of over 500,000 people.
Behind Modena Park lies another now legendary event in Italian music: Luciano Ligabue's first Campovolo, which took place on 10 September 2005 in front of 165,264 spectators.
Campovolo 2015 also appears in the ranking of the most crowded concerts ever, which attracted around 150,000 spectators, confirming the strong bond between Ligabue and his audience.
Here is the top 5, updated to 15 July 2025, of the paid concerts with the most spectators in Italian history, considering only events with a single protagonist artist:
1. Ultimo – Tor Vergata, Roma – 10 giugno 2026 → 250.000 spettatori
2. Vasco Rossi – Modena Park – 1 luglio 2017 → 225.173 spettatori
3. Ligabue – Campovolo – 10 settembre 2005 → 165.264 spettatori
4. Ligabue – Campovolo 2015 – 19 settembre 2015 → 150.000 spettatori
5. Vasco Rossi – Imola – 11 giugno 2022 → 120.000 spettatori
Next on the list we would still find Ligabue, Vasco Rossi and then move on to international artists such as U2, Coldplay, Pink Floyd and Bruce Springsteen. Among women, however, Madonna dominates in 1987 at the Olympic Stadium with around 75,000 spectators and Laura Pausini in 2007 at San Siro with over 70,000.
