The story of Open To The Sea began in 2017. Born as an occasional collaboration between Enrico Coniglio and Matteo Uggeri, it turned into a stable parallel path that took its name from that first piece. Starting from “Ten Rooms Under The Sea”, released at the end of 2023, the project has become a trio with the inclusion of Saverio Rosi.
“Beyond The Emotional Flood” is the seventh product of this synergy and continues to speak with that peculiar electroacoustic lexicon explored and fine-tuned also thanks to many external interventions. A sound inclined towards emotional content, built on a measured intersection of melodic textures and ambient flows which here find an intimate code resulting from the private vicissitudes experienced by the three. A dramaturgy in four acts that reflects on life and death, on tenderness and lust, travel, secrets and much more. All while maintaining a coherent figure capable of adapting to the different atmospheres pursued.
An iridescent flow, also incorporated into the individual tracks as demonstrated by the initial “From A Flood Of Despair To Lightness (None Is Indispensable)” with the opening hiss that blossoms into a guitar phrasing, stops on a narrative voice, starts again combining with an unexpected rhythmic pattern until the slow final fade. Harmony and irregular substrate merge, converge towards electric drifts with the elegant writing of David Sylvian and the deep shadows of the 4AD brand still clearly present. And what remains is the Rachel's-style post-rock rarefaction and that dreamlike dimension which has become a trademark since its debut, always echoed perfectly in the cover graphics.
It is sound that unfolds patiently, built on the instrumental flows of Coniglio and Rosi, cracked and remodulated by Uggeri's action, ready to become an enigmatic story even if it is anything but abstract. Because at the basis of everything there is a real feeling, an experience that tries to be remembered and overcome through music. A full of sensations that does not overwhelm and overwhelm, but invites you to participate.
