Every month the panorama of new releases becomes increasingly crowded. How to orient yourself? Our Spotify playlists are intended to be a useful compass to point out some of the most stimulating news. This time too, the editors of OndaRock have selected songs that tell the evolution of rock, the thousand faces of contemporary pop, the electronic trajectories, the voices of songwriting, the most eclectic experiments, the mutability of border jazz, the creativity of the Italian scene and the darker tones that resonate in the underground. An agile – and, we hope, stimulating – overview for those who want to explore. Happy listening!
Rock and surroundings
New proposals by Shame, Turnstile (album released on June 6th), Been Stellar, Wunderhorse, Suede, Jehnny Beth, Wolf Alice. These are just some of the most interesting news of the last few days from the world of rock and surrounding areas… (Claudio Lancia)
Pop Music
Sabrina Carpenter tries to regain the single of the summer (and therefore, indirectly, of the year), but competing with “Manchild” is a very fierce Addison Rae and Lorde's return to sound melodra(m)maticsafter the flop of “Solar Power”. But, perhaps, what surprises us in the mainstream is Miley Cyrus, also redeemed by her last – truly disastrous – album. For the rest, from the United Kingdom, Pulp and Little Simz continue to excite us. Truly a great month for pop music. (Daniel Moore)
Dark corner
It starts with i Care remixed by Orbital and we continue with other interesting news. The solo return of Peter Murphythe dark atmospheres of Echoberyl and then again Blind Delon and the very minimal Sinnthese. Celldöd's Ebm closes the circle, together with a couple of new entry in the black metal field: Sargeist and Serpentes. (Paolo Chemnitz)
Electronics
New remix for Sandwell District (Record of the Month of April on OndaRock), the return of Arca, followed by a large sequence of excellent female productions from 2025: Erika De Casier, Avalon Emerson, Bambii, Marie Davidson, Yaeji, Amelie Lens, Charlotte De Witte, Aya, FKA Twigs, Ela Minus, Rose Gray and Oklou. To dance, but not only…(Claudio Lancia)
Songwriter
Big Thief, Big Thief, and Big Thief again… (Daniel Moore)
Other sounds
After the brilliant return of Kara-Lis Coverdale, we record the excellent performance of Abul Mogard, the current crest of the section, the intense pianism of Nils Frahm and the return to more suitable levels of Loscil. Among the best collaborations we highlight the dizzying project Pulciperla, while we expected something more from the union of Iluiteq and Eraldo Bernocchi. The new age of Alex Last/Soda Lite is a suitable recommendation for those looking for relaxing sounds, while we have the third chapter Divus for those who love postmodern nocturnes. Among the previews are two extracts from the upcoming works of Matmos and Biosphere. (Peppe Trotta)
Italy
The new singles from Fast Animals And Slow Kids Andrea Laszlo De Simone, Ministri and Visconti open the selection dedicated to the Italian productions of the last few weeks. Happy listening… (Claudio Lancia)
Jazz
The year continues and the gradual exploration of what moves in the most hybridized fringes of jazz continues, where languages meet and new expressive modes take shape. Once again, little orthodoxy, a lot of creativity. And someone will say “but this isn't jazz” (really? Well, too bad!). Among the things already reviewed: Pulciperla, Snowpoet, Emma-Jean Thackray, Eiko Ishibashi, Divus. Among those probably on the way: Jizue, Jameszoo, Budos Band. (Marco Sgrignoli)
