The evolution of rock, the thousand nuances of contemporary pop, the most recent electronic trajectories and the heartfelt voices of singer-songwriters: these are just some of the areas explored in the monthly selections. Added to these are the more eclectic experiments, the mutability of border jazz, the vitality of the Italian scene and the darker tones that resonate in the underground.
This wealth of proposals, extracted from the vast catalog of new monthly releases, finds space in OndaRock's Spotify playlists. Our editors have curated each selection to offer an agile and engaging overview.
A starting point for those who want to explore the music of the moment. Happy listening.
Rock and surroundings
We have a new album for Bush, a brand new single for Deftones, the second work by Wet Leg, containing numerous decidedly electric songs, and many very recent proposals by Been Stellar, Wednesday, Hotline TNT, King Gizzard and Shame. Some of the most interesting news of the last few weeks from the world of rock and surrounding areas… (Claudio Lancia)
Pop Music
Brat Summer is over. Now let the Virgin Summer begin! (Daniel Moore)
Dark corner
Mechanical and dark atmospheres, to cool the temperature. Some new features that have entered the lineup take care of this, such as i Die Tödin, Sad Madona or the synth-pop of the Italian-Polish project Olgha. There is also room for the melancholy of Closed Mouth and to the June crest which rewarded the return of the Swans. In the appendix, they break in Këkht Aräkh (with a single somewhat depressive) and finally Draugveil, the most talked about black metal artist of the moment due to a cover to remember. (Paolo Chemnitz)
Electronics
Finally the announcement of a new album for Soulwax, we can listen to the first single, and then a box to celebrate 25 years of Fabric in London, containing the refined selections of Laurent Garnier (plus four unreleased ones), new albums for Two Shell, Rival Consoles, Nick Leòn and Facta, a track by Four Tet, the interesting collaboration between Cure and Trentemoller, a remix for Sandwell District (Record of the Month for April on OndaRock), the return of Arca, followed by a large sequence of excellent female productions from 2025: Erika De Casier, Avalon Emerson, Bambii, Marie Davidson, Yaeji, Amelie Lens, Charlotte De Witte, Aya, FKA Twigs, Ela Minus, Rose Gray and Oklou. To dance, but not only…(Claudio Lancia)
Songwriter
Alex G and Kae Tempest are the hot names in the songwriter section for this month, but as usual, between gems and new announcements, we also look to the near future. (Daniel Moore)
Other sounds
A situation without particular peaks which sees Abul Mogard's album still being our section crest. Biosphere still demonstrates its ability, but without surprising and not even the new Shelter Press release by Judith Hamann is completely convincing. We record the double release on double track of the Brian Eno/Beatie Wolfe duo and the return to the research sound of the talented and multifaceted Ellen Akbro. Worth noting are the good performances of Purelink and Hara Alonso. (Peppe Trotta)
Italy
The new singles by Zen Circus, Il Mago del Gelato, Ministri, Fast Animals And Slow Kids and Andrea Laszlo De Simone, open the selection dedicated to the Italian productions of the last few weeks. Happy listening… (Claudio Lancia)
Jazz
GoGo Penguin have released their best album in a while, Belgians Glass Museum are announcing a new LP for September, and our Caliber 35s are going all outamarcord television. Meanwhile, Little Simz is rocking out with jazz-rap and interesting things are coming out in Scandinavia. Limiting itself to its most orthodox areas, the current jazz scene might appear rather boring and elitist to non-adepts. But if you look wider it turns out to be one of the most active places of exchange on the global horizon. The monthly playlist serves, as usual, to help you orient yourself among the thousand possible directions in which to observe. Putting hybridizations at the center, but also finding space for more classic approaches. (Marco Sgrignoli)
