OndaRock's monthly playlists are a guide through the vastness of the musical production of the moment. A way to trace the evolutions of rock, contemporary pop with its thousand facets, the new electronic trends, the richness of songwriting, but also the most eclectic experimentation, the mutability of jazz, the vitality of the Italian scene and the darkest sounds of the dark underground.
Our editors have curated each playlist by drawing on the vast catalog of new releases, creating agile and engaging selections aimed at enthusiasts with the most disparate predilections. As always, bgood listen!
Rock and surroundings
September is, as usual, a period full of new recordings. Among the most interesting of these days we can listen to Big Thief, Idles, Jehnny Beth, Chalk, Water From Your Eyes, Militaire Gun, Just Mustard, bar italia, Sorry and Sprints… (Claudio Lancia)
Pop Music
With Charli xcx always present in the pop culture digital, will Sabrina Carpenter be able to dominate the rest of the year even without a new “Espresso”? (Daniel Moore)
Dark corner
We begin to cool the temperature with the ridge dark of the A Shrine To Failurea darkwave proposal that has already left its mark. Among the latest goth brand releases, you will also find the Lebanon Hanover as well as our own Ash Code (for them, a welcome return after a break). As always, the appendix is dedicated to the most extreme sounds: the visceral post-black metal of Der Weg Einer Freiheit stands out in the lineup but also a piece that anticipates the next work by the Danish Afsky, one of the most appreciated names by fans of the genre. (Paolo Chemnitz)
Electronics
Lots of input for dancing, but not only… New EPs for The Dare and Sofia Kourtesis, a remix of Jamie XX edited by Solomon, new albums for Kaytranada, Two Shell, and Soulwax, Rival Consoles, Nick Leòn and Facta, a track by Four Tet, the interesting collaboration between Cure and Trentemoller, a remix for Sandwell District (Record of the Month in April on OndaRock), the return of Arca, followed by a large sequence of excellent female productions from 2025: Erika De Casier, Avalon Emerson, Bambii, Marie Davidson, Yaeji, Amelie Lens, Charlotte De Witte, Aya, FKA Twigs, Ela Minus, Rose Gray and Oklou. (Claudio Lancia)
Songwriter
Margo Price returns to a more country collection, Tweedy announces a river opera, while Big Thief continues to write masterful songs. A selection to enjoy the last moments of summer and look forward to a promising autumn of record releases. (Daniel Moore)
Other sounds
While waiting for the autumn news, our selection recovers a worthy series of summer releases. On the Italian front, yet another interesting work by Paolo Angeli and the collaborative effort by Federico Mosconi and Barbara De Dominicis stand out. Alongside them we find the always atmospheric Hammock and the mutant hyperfusion of the Jameszoo project. We highlight our choices of the month, the second four-handed performance by Sofie Birch & Antonina Nowacka and the work with a political soul created by the trio Charbel Haber – Nicolás Jaar – Sary Moussa, current crest of the section. We close with two previews: an excerpt from the upcoming works of Claire Rousay and Max Richter. (Peppe Trotta)
Italy
Brand new singles for Zen Circus and Andrea Laszlo De Simone, followed by Il Mago del Gelato, Ministri and Fast Animals And Slow Kids open the selection dedicated to the Italian productions of the last few weeks. Happy listening… (Claudio Lancia)
Jazz
A return from the summer with numerous excursions across the border – and, surprisingly, even without leaving home. The Italians Pietra Tonale lead to the boundaries between jazz, post-rock and avant/progressive approaches, while with Porto Raro it is the electronic and downtempo dimension that dictates the coordinates of (largely) jazz exploration. Among the expectations, L'Antidote are already projecting towards an open and contaminated Mediterranean, while the very recent releases of Kokoroko and Holden/Zimpel confirm the King Midas touch that belongs only to the best champions.
