The success of Michael. A couple of weeks ago the biopic dedicated to Michael Jackson topped Bohemian Rhapsody and with its 911.9 million dollars raised worldwide it became the highest-grossing musical biopic in history. Now Michael is officially the most successful biopic (not just musical) ever. With 977 million dollars at the box office (around 858 million euros) it surpassed the record set three years ago by Oppenheimer by Christopher Nolan, which grossed 965.
It was clear from the first weekend of screenings in April that the film directed by Antoine Fuqua, with Jaafar Jackson as the uncle, was destined for success, when it grossed 217 million dollars. He continued to gross a million dollars a day or more, and this despite many negative reviews, questionable historical accuracy and the many complaints about the lack of controversial parts that instead characterized the history of the king of pop and which in an early stage of production were expected to be part of the script. In the end it was decided to prudently stop the film at the tour Badbefore the serious allegations of sexual harassment.
The film has given new impetus to the catalog of Michael Jackson and the Jacksons/Jackson 5, who have in fact announced new dates (with two original members). In the official Italian ranking the film's soundtrack is at number 18, with 9 weeks of stay, the edition for the fortieth anniversary of Thriller at 28, the compilation Number Ones at 37, Bad at 57, Dangerous at 98.
In the United States Thriller it's at number 6 and Number Ones at 7, ahead of records by Olivia Dean, BTS and Noah Khan. In the UK the compilation The Essential Michael Jackson is in third place, Thriller on the seventh, Bad eleventh and also in the rankings Off The Wall at number 78. In the Spotify global chart Thriller he is third behind Olivia Rodrigo, BTS and Bad Bunny, in the American one he is sixth.
