Perhaps John Lydon, staunch enemy of the operation, is rubbing his hands. The fact is that the Sex Pistols' Italian concerts with Frank Carter will not take place. The two dates scheduled for the “Anarchy in the UK” tour, scheduled for June 25th at the Arena del Levante in Bari and June 26th at the Parco della Musica in Novegro (Milan), were canceled less than 24 hours before the start of the shows.
The organizers released two separate communications: for the Bari concert reference was made to “technical and logistical problems”, while for the Milan date the cancellation was attributed to “circumstances beyond the promoters' control”, i.e. in all likelihood few tickets sold.
Even with different reasons, both decisions lead to the cancellation of the entire Italian stage, with no recovery dates having been announced at the moment.
Announced last April, the tour celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of “Anarchy in the UK”, the historic debut single released in 1976. The protagonists on stage are Steve Jones, Paul Cook and Glen Matlock, supported by Frank Carter, who joined the live lineup permanently in 2024. reunion which continues to arouse very harsh criticism from ex-frontman John Lydon, but which in the last two years has found good response from the public, debuting in Italy in the summer of 2024 at the AMA Music Festival in Romano d'Ezzelino.
The show retraces the band's beginnings and pays homage to the season that gave birth to British punk, evoking the first concerts in the symbolic venues of the London scene, such as the Marquee, the 100 Club, Nashville and El Paradiso. Unless further changes, the tour will resume as normal on July 3rd with the concert in Barcelona.
