Iron Maiden wrote an unprecedented page in the history of Italian concerts by performing on June 17th at the San Siro stadium in Milan, thus becoming the first heavy metal group to take the stage at the Meazza. Around 45 thousand spectators attended the Italian leg of the “Run For Your Lives. From Iron Maiden To Fear Of The Dark” tour, the tour that celebrates the band's 50th anniversary by retracing the repertoire of the first nine albums released between 1980 and 1992.
From the stage, Bruce Dickinson underlined the symbolic value of the event: “Milan, finally at San Siro! It's a thrill to play in this legendary stadium, 50 years ago we certainly didn't think that we would perform here one day, what's more in front of such a large audience, the likes of which we've never had in Italy, it's truly a dream”.
The evening opened with “Murders In The Rue Morgue”, “Wrathchild” and “Killers”, and then went through some of the most famous pages of the band's catalogue. Among the most acclaimed moments, “Phantom Of The Opera”, “The Number Of The Beast”, “Powerslave”, the monumental “Rime Of The Ancient Mariner”, “Run To The Hills” and “The Trooper”, performed with Dickinson waving the Italian flag on stage.
In the finale there was no shortage of other absolute classics such as “Hallowed Be Thy Name”, “Iron Maiden” and, in the encores, “Aces High”, “Fear Of The Dark” and “Wasted Years”.
A concert that celebrated half a century of career and confirmed the exceptional following of a band that, after over 130 million records sold and thousands of concerts all over the world, continues to attract impressive crowds.
