Weezer are excited to announce their new project, “Weezer”, out on August 21, 2026 on label Reprise/Warner Records.
After releasing the albums Blue, Green, Red, White, Teal and Black, Weezer returns with a new color in their arsenal for “Weezer” – their twentieth album over the course of their monumental, decades-long career.
After an incredible, sold-out 30th anniversary tour during which Weezer played their iconic debut album in its entirety, the band reunited in Orange County – a meeting point halfway between their respective California homes – and went, essentially, back to their roots: in a rehearsal room, playing together, writing together, trying to figure out what they wanted to do next and what form the next project would take.
“Weezer“was born from those sessions: just four guys in a room, creating together. The result is “Weezer” – a record as tight as a spring, ready to spring, with songs written by three of the four members of the band; it is the first time that Weezer frontman/guitarist Rivers Cuomo and drummer Pat Wilson have written the backing tracks of a song from their first album together.
When it came time to record, the band chose two extraordinary producers, with different approaches but in tune with Weezer's sonic vision: Klas Ahlund And Kenneth Blume (formerly known as Kenny Beats), with Kenny declaring that he wanted to make “the most violent Weezer album ever”. While Klas took a more mathematical and rigorous approach to recording, Kenny oriented the production towards the typical “rock band in a room” atmosphere: no grid, no pitch correction. The drums were recorded with all four members playing live, listening to each other and continually reshaping the songs.
“Weezer“plays to the band's timeless strengths and feels like one of those “imaginary greatest hits collections” made up entirely of previously unreleased songs. It's a direct, raw take on the band: an album as urgent and vital as any in their catalogue, three decades into their career.”Weezer” contains meta-ironic songs about aging as a band, evaluating their legacy and continuing to move forward, along with other songs that celebrate their current position: that of some of the most influential artists in the world to anyone, at any age, who picks up a guitar, a bass or a pair of drumsticks.
