Edoardo Bennato returns live with “When I'll be great”, a series of concert-events that is taking him to the main Italian arenas accompanied by his Be-Band, by the Quartetto Flegreo and, on all dates with the exception of Empoli, also by the soprano Maria Chiara Chizzoni.
The tour – which started with the show on 6 July in Venice – will arrive on 20 July at the Circus Maximus in Rome, and then continue on 3 September at the Serravalle Park in Empoli, on 12 September at the Teatro Grande in Pompeii and on 18 September at the Mind Live Theater in Milan.
On stage Bennato will retrace over fifty years of his career through a repertoire that has left a profound mark on Italian music. Always an artist outside the box, he was able to blend rock, blues, folk, punk and pop in a personal and unmistakable style, giving life to songs that told the present with an often anticipatory look. The “When I'll Be Great” concerts promise to be a journey through the most famous songs from his discography, in a setup that combines the strength of the band with the elegance of the strings. A formula designed to enhance a catalog of songs that have firmly entered the history of Italian music.
The live dimension has always been central to Bennato's career. Among the most remembered feats is that of the summer of 1980, when he performed in fifteen stadiums in the space of a single month, an unprecedented result for an Italian artist.
The title of the tour recalls “When you will be great”, a song published in 1977 which closes the concept album “Wireless puppet”. The song addresses the difficult transition from childhood to adulthood, reflecting on the loss of the spontaneity and freedom typical of children and criticizing a society that often struggles to listen to the new generations. That spirit continues to characterize Bennato today, an artist who has always claimed his creative independence and rejection of any conformism. “When I grow up” thus also becomes a declaration of intent: to continue to look at the world with curiosity, freedom and a critical spirit, without giving up the ability to dream and question conventions.
