Amy Winehouse: the documentary “Rebellious Soul” will be broadcast for the first time on Sky – The photos and the trailer

Fifteen years after the death of Amy Winehouse, Sky Arte offers the first viewing of the documentary “Amy Winehouse – Rebel Soul”, broadcast on 22 July at 9.15pm and also available in streaming on NOW and On Demand. Produced by the BBC, the film traces the life of the British artist through the testimonies of the people who were closest to her. For the first time, mother Janis Winehouse talks in depth about her relationship with her daughter, with the aim of providing a more authentic portrait of the singer and debunking some of the narratives that over the years have contributed to defining her public image.

Suffering from multiple sclerosis, a disease that risks compromising her memories, Janis embarks on a journey down memory lane together with Amy's closest friends – Naomi, Chantelle, Catriona and Michael – who appear in front of the cameras for the first time. Through their stories, a complex, brilliant and energetic personality emerges, far from the stereotypes that accompanied his figure.
The documentary also follows the family's journey through the grieving process. Janis reopens for the first time the warehouse where her daughter's personal effects were stored, bringing to light objects, memories and fragments of her private life. The intent is to remember Amy not only as an extraordinary artist, but also as a woman capable of transmitting joy, irony and vitality.

Mitch Winehouse, Janis's ex-husband and the singer's father, also intervenes in the film. He openly addresses the criticisms received over the years and talks about the support that family and friends tried to offer Amy during her long battle with addiction. The documentary also traces his rapid rise to success, the weight of media pressure and personal tragedies, such as the loss of his grandmother, challenging the idea that his problems were simply down to a difficult childhood or his parents' divorce. His addictions and mental health difficulties are also explored in depth, showing a more complex picture than what had emerged publicly.

Enriched by never-before-seen family footage and rare live performances, “Amy Winehouse – Rebel Soul” thus offers an intimate and personal portrait of one of the most influential artists in British music, proposing a new reading of her life, her affections and the artistic legacy she continues to leave.
