Canada has been admitted among the participants in the 2027 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Bulgaria. Participation in the Contest is in fact not dictated by geographical reasons, but subordinated to the membership of national public radio and television stations in the European Broadcasting Union, of which CBC/Radio-Canada became part of a few days ago. The announcement was made yesterday, on the occasion of Canada Day or Fête du Canada, the national holiday celebrating the anniversary of the British North America Act.
“Participation in next year's Eurovision Song Contest in Bulgaria will allow Canadian talent to showcase themselves on one of the most legendary music stages in the world,” said Marie-Philippe Bouchard, CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada. “It will also allow Canadian fans to continue to follow and vote in the Song Contest, as they have done for years, with the added thrill of seeing their country represented on stage.”
In the latest edition of the Eurovision Songs Contest, Canada was one of the three most active countries among those belonging to the “rest of the world” category to express its opinion via televoting. In the past the Canadian Céline Dion participated and won the Eurovision 1988 with I didn't leave without mebut representing Switzerland.
