The Strokes have postponed the release of their new album “Reality Awaits” by almost a month. The album, initially expected for June 26th, will now arrive on July 24th. Guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. clarified the reasons for the postponement, replying to a fan on X explaining that the band chose to move the release to coincide with the release on digital platforms with that of the vinyl edition. A postponement therefore linked to production and distribution issues, rather than to artistic or organizational problems.
In the comments, subsequently removed but relaunched by users on Reddit, Hammond also hinted at something about the sound of the new work, stating that the album seems like the work of a “strange young band”, suggesting a fresh and perhaps unexpected approach compared to the past of the group led by Julian Casablancas. The guitarist had already expressed great enthusiasm for “Reality Awaits”, even calling it his favorite album among those made by the Strokes. Replying to a fan on Instagram, he wrote: “I can't express how beautiful it is. I listen to it all and then want to start from the beginning again. It just grows and grows and becomes intoxicatingly more and more beautiful.”
Meanwhile Hammond has also released a new solo single made together with indie-rock artist KennyHoopla. The song, entitled “New America//”, has been available for a few days and represents the guitarist's latest release awaiting the arrival of the new Strokes album.
