Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman, the English authors and producers behind great successes of Dead or Alive, Kylie Minogue, Bananarama, Rick Astley, just to name a few, have interviewees from Sun A series of criticisms in Sabrina Carpenter.
Waterman has mentioned in particular Carpenter as an artist whose image, in his opinion, is harmful to women: “Seeing Sabrina Carpenter dressed as a girl is rather offensive. It doesn't need it. It has a great talent, yet in the musical industry the girls dress like this to bring the boys on their sites »
Still Waterman: “He is crazy, if you ask to be respected, don't go on the stage in the thong.” On the erotic references present in the texts of Sabrina, a stylistic figure of the pop star, Stock has a decisive opinion: “They are lazy”.
Sabrina Carperter replied to the trio in an interview for the Sun on Sunday: “My message has always been clear: if you can't bear a girl who is sure of her sexuality, don't come to my shows”. Carpenter did not be surprised at the comment of the three men: judging women with appearance “is not something new”. And again: «The women's artists have always been victims of shaming. In the 1900s Rihanna, in the 90s Britney Spears, in the '80 Madonna. Now it's up to me. In essence, they are saying that the female interpreters should not expose their sexuality in the texts, in the way they dress and in the one in which they perform ».
“It is totally regressive. It does not seem to me that these people comment when I speak of self -care, body positivity or love penalties, which are all normal things for a twenty -five year old. They just want to talk about the sexual side of my performances ».
