Is the band that accompanies Bob Dylan losing its pieces, or rather the guitarists? What's happening? Since this is His Bobness, there are no denials or official confirmations. A bit like what happened in the 60s and 70s, the answers will arrive on stage.
The fact is that a dozen days after the changeover between Doug Lancio and Julian Lage, that is, between the musician who had been part of Dylan's live band for five years and the 38-year-old jazz guitar phenomenon who joined the group on June 17, there was another upheaval in the line-up.
Judging by a post that was later deleted but spread by his followers, guitarist Bob Britt would have left the group. Judging from the screenshots circulating, he accompanied a post about the plane trip from Nashville to Austin with the words “Sayonara Bobby”, and then in the comments with a dry and unequivocal “I quit”. Taking the veracity of the screenshots for granted, it is obviously not clear what happened, that is, whether abandoning the tour was a desired or forced choice, and whether it is definitive. Britt had been playing with Dylan since 2019.
Dylan's next tour date is tonight in Austin, Texas. Will the rift with Britt be healed? Will only one guitarist take the stage, namely Lage? But Lage himself is expected this evening from 7.30pm to 9pm in Brooklyn, New York, for a sold out evening of interviews and performances called A New York Evening With Julian Lage organized by the Grammy Museum.
And again, given the commitments of Lage, who will arrive in Italy on August 8 for Jacob Collier's Hideaway at Ciocco, in Tuscany, is the jazz phenomenon a temporary replacement?
