    Genesis: reunion of Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford for the reissue of “From Genesis To Revelation”

    Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford reunited to return to the origins of Genesis. The three musicians reunited at AIR Studios in London last April 14th to listen to and talk about “From Genesis To Revelation”, the band's 1969 debut album, at the center of a rich new reissue out on October 9th for Cherry Red and Esoteric Recordings. The original guitarist Anthony Phillips also participated in the project: together with Banks, Gabriel and Rutherford he supervised and authorized the new edition of the album, which will be released in three formats: a deluxe box set with four CDs and a Blu-ray, a double CD and a double vinyl.

    The reprint

    The heart of the reissue is made up of the new mix created by Stephen W. Tayler, who tried to bring the performance of the young band, reducing the weight of the orchestrations that characterized the original edition. Tayler also created the new mixes in stereo, 5.1 Surround Sound and Dolby Atmos.
    The box set deluxe reconstructs in a particularly thorough way that first phase of Genesis' history. In addition to the new mix of the album, it contains remastered versions of the original mono and stereo mixes, singles from the time, rare recordings and an entire CD dedicated to the demos recorded in 1967 and 1968, four of which were previously unreleased and remixed by Tayler.

    The Blu-ray instead offers “From Genesis To Revelation” and four bonus tracks in Dolby Atmos, 5.1 Surround Sound and 96 kHz/24-bit stereo. Completing the album is the film made on April 14, 2026 at AIR Studios, with Banks, Gabriel and Rutherford busy listening to the material again and remembering the genesis of the album. The set also includes a 68-page illustrated book with an essay by Jon Dann and contributions from the four original members involved in the project.
    The double vinyl edition will also have additional content: a bonus 12-inch EP with new mixes of “A Winter's Tale”, “One Eyed Hound”, “Image Blown Out” and the previously unreleased “Visions Of Angels”.

    The record

    “From Genesis To Revelation” documents a formation still far from what a few years later would become one of the fundamental groups of British progressive rock. The album was born when Gabriel, Banks, Rutherford and Phillips were very young students at Charterhouse School and were discovered by producer Jonathan King. Steve Hackett and Phil Collins had not yet joined the group and Chris Stewart and John Silver alternated on drums during the album sessions.
    Released in March 1969, the debut showed a band still searching for its own identity, with pop and psychedelic songs on which King overdubbed strings and horns. The turning point would come the following year with “Trespass”, when the language of Genesis would begin to take on the most recognizable characteristics of their progressive season.
