After a few years spent in the Underground radars thanks to a demo and a well -accepted mini, the Clairvoyance finally land on the debut on the long distance. “Chasm of Immurement” comes as a natural and necessary stop in the path of the Polish Death Metal band: a disc that does not upset what has already been proposed previously, but offers a more complete, orderly and convinced version. The potential was there, now there are also a clear direction and a decidedly more mature writing.
Already the cover, signed by Paolo Girardi, does its part: a work that affects for detail and impact, and which anticipates the oppressive atmosphere well but if necessary changing that pervades the whole disc. In short, for once, the dress coincides with the monk. The six traces of “Chasm of Immurement” in fact show a group that has worked with attention and intelligence on their material, avoiding the typical errors of the debuts that are too hasty.
On a stilistic level, the Clairvoyance are naturally inserted in the wake of the latest generation Death Metal School, the one that in recent years has seen names such as Cerebral Rot/Corpus offal, Tzompantli, the first Tomb Molds and other similar realities. The sound is bleak and not very accommodating, but writing is far from scruffy: on the contrary, a great care for the riff and constant attention to the development of the songs is perceived.
After a rather excited Opener such as “Eternal Blaze”, which in some stretch also brings to mind the old suffocation, a clear example of the value of the formation arrives with the second track, “Hymn of the Befouered”, which winds with fluidity between different sections, always maintaining the tension high and offering moments particularly successful in terms of groove and impact. It is one of the peaks of the disc, and gives the idea of the quality that the Warsaw band is able to express when it manages to keep inspiration and measure together.
Proceeding with listening, a “Reign of Silence” is immediately worthy of note, which follows a canvas similar to the previous ones, but stands out in the second half thanks to a well -dose slowing down, where melodic hints peek which add color without distorting the context. The song then ends with another beautiful riff, Groovy and spot on, which remains imprinted. On “Blood Divine”, on the other hand, Riffing becomes more angular, suggesting, at least in mydtempo, combinations with the most square soft angels, also showing here a good mastery of language.
The closure is therefore entrusted to “Monument to Dread”, the longest and most articulated piece. Here the band tries to summarize everything shown to this point: there are slowdowns, there is the round and immediately captivating groove, there is the plumbean atmosphere and, above all, there is a compositional solidity that convinces. In this case, the comparison with the first Spectral Voice, however premature, is not out of place: in seven minutes, the Clairvoyance shows that they can handle the dilated times without falling into boredom, leaving room for well -built variations and a sense of underground tension that keeps listening to the last alive.
On balance, the Clairvoyance therefore do not try impervious roads, nor do they launch into forced experiments. Their is a direct but not simplistic approach, which finds its strength in the ability to write compact, dynamic, well -structured and able to imprintly imprints. Of course, a personality fully formed is still being defined: the influences are well present and in some passages they immediately make themselves heard. However, in this circumstance what matters is that the band has shown that he knows how to do things well: he knows how to write interesting riffs, he knows how to move with ease in even more atmospheric territories and, above all, knows how to calibrate every element with balance. The production, rough the right and consistent with the cut of the proposal, helps to make everything even more credible.
In short, a solid and promising debut can be defined as “Chasm of Imanement”, in which the Polish boys prefer to make the riffs speak, build with method, chisel the songs with a writing that, even without clamor, leaves the mark. The result is a job that flows without hitches but that does not consume quickly: like a crypt dug with patience in the stone, full of family echoes, but not for this devoid of charm.
