Beck returns with a new album. The American singer-songwriter has announced “Ride Lonesome”, his first studio work after almost seven years since the release of “Hyperspace”, released at the end of 2019.
The album marks a return to the intimate and acoustic atmospheres that had characterized “Sea Change” and “Morning Phase”, a path already anticipated by the single of the same name released in April, subsequently re-proposed also in a version with Sierra Ferrell. At the same time as the announcement of the album, Beck released a second extract, “In The Night”, a folk-rock song with warm and melancholy undertones, embellished with an elegant string arrangement. The single is accompanied by a video clip directed by Mikai Karl, starring the French actor Denis Lavant.
“Ride Lonesome” was produced by Beck himself and mixed by Nigel Godrich, the artist's historic collaborator already working on “Mutations” and “Sea Change”. For the recordings, Beck reunited much of the band that had accompanied him on those records and on “Morning Phase”: Smokey Hormel, Joey Waronker, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Roger Joseph Manning Jr. and Jason Falkner.
“The album will be out this fall,” Beck said. “The musicians from my original band, with whom I had recorded “Sea Change”, “Morning Phase” and “Mutations”, reunited with me in my favorite studio, Room B at United Studios in Hollywood. Nigel Godrich mixed all the songs. It had been a decade since we last recorded together, with “Morning Phase”. This time I had the feeling that our playing and the chemistry between us had grown and deepened: a sound matured over decades of shared work.”
“Although returning to a musical and physical place that we knew well, we seemed to discover new sounds and new emotional nuances along the way,” added the singer-songwriter.
