Frank Beard, the longtime, hard-shuffling drummer for Texas rock greats ZZ Top, died on Monday. He was 77. Bob Merlis, the band’s representative, confirmed the news, saying Beard died while in hospice care, surrounded by family, at his ranch in Richmond, Texas. An exact cause of death was not given. ZZ Top also announced that it would cancel its scheduled show tonight (Aug. 18) in Salt Lake City and its gig on Wednesday (Aug. 19) in Colorado Springs. The band’s current tour will resume this weekend in Austin. Beard had faced several serious health issues over the years. In 2002,…
Remi Wolf has announced her third studio album ‘Mud’, saying making the record has helped her enter “a new phase of life”. The Palo Alto singer-songwriter will release the follow-up to 2024’s ‘Big Ideas‘ on October 9 via Island Records, and the 11-track album will include the recent single ‘Twiggy’, while another new song ‘Bottle’ will arrive on Thursday (August 20). Pre-order the album here. Speaking about the record, Wolf has said: “I feel like I’ve crossed into a new phase of life because of this album. I literally felt like I was covered in shit. And now, at the end of the album process,…
The 2026 Video Music Awards might be in for a little more cowbell this year. Though it’s big names like Madonna and Taylor Swift who dominate the nominations, we’re equally interested in some lesser-known artists up for the Best New Artist honor. Namely, Magnus Ferrell. If that last name sounds familiar, it’s because, yes, the 22-year-old is the son of actor and oddball percussion king Will Ferrell, who has been releasing music since the ripe old age of 17. His song “Asleep Talking” was a viral hit, and his smooth, R&B-influenced sound and impressive falsetto feels like something Ron Burgundy…
Tyler, the Creator has revealed the lineup for this year’s Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival—that is, if you’re clever enough to solve a word scramble on the event’s official website. Our intrepid deciphering shows that Future, Turnstile, Earl Sweatshirt, MIKE, Steve Lacy, and Syd will all play the festival, which returns to Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium this year on November 14 and 15.As with past years, Tyler himself will also perform; as of this writing, it’s the only US show he has scheduled this year. Rounding out the bill are Jane Remover, JID, Liim, the Alchemist, Vince Staples, Don Toliver, GENA,…

Madonna and Taylor Swift are the top nominees at this year’s Video Music Awards, with the former snagging 11 and the latter with nine. That includes nods for Video of the Year—Madge for Confessions II – The Film, Tay for Life of a Showgirl’s “The Fate of Ophelia”—alongside Bruno Mars (“I Just Might”), Gener8ion and Yung Lean (“Storm”), Ariana Grande (“Hate That I Made You Love Me”) and Sabrina Carpenter (“Tears”). Other notable nods include PinkPantheress and Zara Larsson (each with five total, including their Song of the Year remix collab “Stateside”) and Geese (one total, for “Taxes” in Best…
Maybe you’ve seen the original videos — a young woman getting in an Uber, asking if it’s for Chanty Beluga, or walking up to a hostess stand, asking for her reservation for two under the same name. Or maybe you’ve seen the fan accounts posting that they have dirt on Chanty, or that Chanty hit them with a car or owes them thousands of dollars. Or maybe it’s the delicate cover of the Plain White T’s “Hey There Deliliah” with the name Chanty Beluga swapped in. Or maybe it’s just one of the confused tweets asking what the hell is…
Remi Wolf was, by the sound of things, having a rough time of it. Before she recorded her new album Mud—out October 9 via Island—the California singer-producer says, “ I literally felt like I was covered in shit. And now, at the end of the album process, I feel so clean and clear.” You can find the tracklist for Mud and its artwork below.Wolf returned last month with “Twiggy,” her first single in the two years since her last album, Big Ideas. She had debuted the track the previous weekend during a surprise appearance at Hayley Williams’ Newport Folk Festival…
E veryone who worked on Jae Stephens’ debut album Audacity received a mandatory assignment: to watch Coyote Ugly. The 2000 film stars Piper Perabo as Violet, an aspiring songwriter with big city dreams and a gig at a bar that’s like a boot camp for building self-confidence. “She just wants to be a star,” Stephens says on a sweltering morning in New York. The cult classic connected with her as a kid growing up in Pasadena, but even more so as a woman with ambitious pop star aspirations of her own — and the nerve to go after them. Stephens…
