When I started working in music media around 10 years ago, I thought Taylor Swift was underrated, which seems like a ridiculous statement to make now. This was in the post-1989 and pre-Reputation days, when each album seemed like an expansion and continuation of its predecessor, each defined by a particular set of influences and imagery, all constellating around an increasingly confident style of writing that felt distinctive in any landscape she placed herself: country, singer-songwriter, pop. We didn’t use the term “eras” yet, but the evolution was clear. And with some notable exceptions, it seemed like the publications I…

Hayden Panettiere’s former partner, Wladimir Klitschko, issued a statement following the actress’ sudden death over the weekend, writing, “Our family is going through a time of profound shock and grief.” Klitschko, a former Ukrainian boxing champion, and Panettiere met in 2009 and spent much of the 2010s together. In 2014, the couple had a daughter, Kaya, and though they were engaged, they never got married. Panettiere and Klitschko separated in 2018, and while Klitschko got sole custody of Kaya, she and Panettiere maintained a relationship. In his post, Klitschko shared a photo of himself and Panettiere, with Kaya on her…
ABC is accusing the Federal Communications Commission of infringing on its First Amendment rights Donald Trump and his administration has made common practice of filing dubious lawsuits against media networks they believed have somehow wronged the president. ABC flipped the script on Tuesday, suing the government for allegedly infringing on its First Amendment rights. The suit against the Federal Communication Commission stems from actions the agency has taken against ABC as Trump has raged over late-night host Jimmy Kimmel making jokes about him. In April, FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr ordered a review of ABC’s broadcasting licenses. The agency said the…
Ellie Goulding is suing her former managers for securing her deals with Live Nation while concealing their business relationship with the ticketing giant, Variety reports. Goulding claims Benedict Mawson and Edward Millett of TaP Management failed to disclose that Live Nation had held a controlling stake in TaP Management’s parent company, HNOE (which is also a defendant), since 2015, and purchased the entire company in 2019.After the full acquisition, Mawson became HNOE’s CEO, and he and Millett reported directly to “an individual designated by Live Nation’s chief executive officer,” according to the lawsuit. The two allegedly took a 20 percent…
Brandon Flowers has spoken to NME about revisiting his formative years to give more of himself away than ever before on new solo album ‘Thrasher’, as well as tackling the “loneliness epidemic” for an incoming “sister record” and what’s next for The Killers. The frontman of the Las Vegas band will release his third solo album this Friday (August 21), drawing from his early childhood years and country music like Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings that his father would play to him while driving around rural Utah. It carries the Americana thread launched by The Killers’ classic 2006 album ‘Sam’s…
Haim have teased their New York-inspired new album during an interview with NME, revealing that they are “always writing”. The Los Angeles trio – comprised of sisters Danielle, Este and Alana Haim – released their fourth and latest studio record, ‘I Quit’, last summer. Speaking to NME recently, bassist Este was asked about the status of upcoming material from the band as she discussed scoring the new Bella Ramsey film Sunny Dancer alongside Zachary Dawes (Lana Del Rey, The Last Shadow Puppets). “Haim business is open for business, 24 hours, seven days a week,” the musician responded. “We’re always writing, we’re always thinking…
“It’s that old trope, that musicians want to be comedians, and comedians want to be rock stars,” Robby Hoffman says. We’re talking about her comedy special, Robby Hoffman: Wake Up, which was produced by John Mulaney and was a breakout hit on Netflix when it aired in December 2025. Today, it also drops as an album from the legendary indie label Secretly Canadian, available in digital format as well as a limited run of signed vinyl. (Find out where to order here.) For a diminutive Jewish dyke (her word) from Montreal, Hoffman has an ineffable swagger — it’s something in…
