Nordstrom's annual deals event dates all the way back to the 1920s, and commemorates the opening of the first Nordstrom retail location — a shoe store named Wallin & Nordstrom — in August of 1901.
Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale is not to be confused with the store's “Half-Yearly Sale,” which takes place semi-annually in May and December.
