The second day of the La Prima Estate festival, in Lido di Camaiore, was dominated by the only Italian date of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, protagonists of a concert lasting over two and a half hours which transformed the BussolaDomani Park into a sort of collective ritual.
Accompanied by the Bad Seeds, with Warren Ellis in the foreground and Colin Greenwood on bass, Cave proposed a repertoire that spanned his entire career, also giving ample space to the latest album “Wild God”.
The opening with “Get Ready For Love” and “From Her To Eternity” immediately lit up the concert, with the Australian singer-songwriter in the audience right from the start, in a continuous physical and emotional exchange with the spectators. At 68, Cave still demonstrates impressive energy: he runs on stage, kneels, reaches the piano and returns to seek direct contact with the front rows, the central element of a performance which will always remain at high intensity. The presence of the gospel choir accentuated the spiritual dimension of the show, while the Bad Seeds supported each song with their usual precision and power.
Among the most significant moments of the evening, “O Children”, during which Cave picked up a child from the front rows, the return to the setlist of “Train Long-Suffering” after over thirty years, the very popular “Red Right Hand”, sung in unison by the audience, and the overwhelming finale with “Jubilee Street” and “Hiding All Away”. There was an invitation to spectators to put away their phones to fully experience one of the most intimate songs of the concert.
Before Cave's performance, alternating on stage were Dove Ellis with her essential folk, Emilíana Torrini, welcomed with great warmth at sunset, and Sleaford Mods, who brought their usual blend of electronic, post-punk and provocation.
