“4 Mura” is the title of VAREGO's new singlea fast-paced rock song, characterized by a sound that vaguely recalls the sounds of the '80s, enriched by the inclusion of light synth components that broaden its atmospheric depth.
The text offers a glimpse of daily life, in which irony and moments of deeper reflection alternate. At the center of the piece emerges an analysis of internal conflict and the feeling of being a voice out of the chorus in an increasingly frenetic and disorienting contemporary context. This condition often leads to progressive isolation, which finds in music – or other personal passions – a possible form of refuge and authentic expression.
A central element of the song is the concept of “war”, expressed on multiple levels. Not only as a reference to the real tensions and conflicts that mark current events, but also as a metaphor for digital everyday life. In particular, social media is described as a virtual battlefield, where the clash between individuals often becomes a collective outlet of personal frustrations.
VAREGO
Born in Arenzano (Genoa) in 2009, VAREGO they blend sludge, grunge, stoner, post metal and progressive into a visceral and ever-evolving sound. The band's name comes from a local plant with healing or poisonous properties, a perfect metaphor for music that alternates chaos and catharsis.
After the debut with the album “TUMULTUM” (2012, Argonauta Records), produced by Billy Anderson (Melvins, Sleep, Mr. Bungle), the band consolidates its identity first with the EP with “Blindness Of The Sun” (feat. Jarboe of Swans) and then with the album “Epoch” (2016). In 2018 the collaboration with Mattia Cominotto (Greenfog Studio) began, which marks works such as “I, Prophetic” (2019) and the self-titled “Varego” (2021), an artistic and sonic turning point.
In 2024 they publish “Dog Teeth”first album entirely in Italianconfirming an even more direct and identifying style of writing. In 2025 they return to the studio for a new chapter, continuing a coherent, powerful and uncompromising path.
