The USMNT will face Turkey in both teams' final match of the group stage, with the US looking to maintain momentum as it heads to the knockout stage. While any World Cup game is high-stakes, the result of the US vs. Turkey game won't affect either country's outlook; the US has already secured first place in its group by beating Australia and Paraguay, while Turkey lost to both teams and is headed home regardless of its result against the US or Paraguay's game against Australia.

US vs. Turkey: What to Know
Even with two games left to play in the group, Turkey has already been eliminated, while the US has already advanced, making this a “dead rubber” game. The result is inconsequential because of FIFA's change to how ties are settled. Ties are now broken first by head-to-head results within the group, rather than goal differential. Since Turkey lost to both Australia and Paraguay, even if they tie in points with either country at the end of the group stage, they won't finish better than fourth.
That creates an interesting question for Mauricio Pochettino, head coach of the US men's national team. He may bench several starters, including Tyler Adams, Folarin Balogun, Chris Richards, and Antonee Robinson; each has a yellow card, and if any of them pick up a second in the group stage, they'll have to sit out the first game of the Round of 32. Christian Pulisic, meanwhile, missed the second half of the Paraguay match and all of the Australia match after getting a calf injury, but has been training with the team, so his status is in question. The US will likely want to stave off a loss that would risk blunting their momentum heading into the knockouts, while Turkey will surely want to claw back a win to have something to show for their trip.
