A year after hospitalization and two operations in Bergamo (here we told you what had happened), Robert Fripp returned to talk about those moments and his physical conditions in an interview on Uncut.
«When I had the heart attack I mistook it for heartburn. I flew to Milan for a course with 100 members of the Orchestra of Crafty Guitarists and one of them took me to the emergency room because a friend of his had had something similar”, recalls the King Crimson musician. «They hooked me up to a monitor and immediately afterwards this dear man shaved my balls. But why, if I have a heart problem, were they shaving my balls?”. Fripp then says that he underwent surgery to insert a stent but, due to a trifurcated artery, he then had to return to have a further stent inserted before he could reach the course.
Precisely on the question of hair removal, which Fripp had already spoken about in the past, the interviewer returns, asking the guitarist if he had finally understood the reason. “That man didn't explain to me why,” he says. “But few of them spoke English. In fact there were a series of funny moments, like when I pulled down my trousers in front of a nun thinking she was asking me that, when in fact she just wanted to know what I wanted for lunch.”
Fripp then said that to keep his health under control he now goes to the gym regularly, yoga, stretching, weights. “I haven't been this good physically for at least ten years.”
There will therefore be the possibility of seeing him on stage with King Crimson: «Playing the guitar with King Crimson is like having an Olympics. It's very tax. There are certain things that, today, are difficult for me to repeat. But I don't feel the need to perform live.”
And he adds: «It is the beginning of a new chapter, which I imagine far from the scenes. I want to work with Guitar Craft students, this is where I will put my effort.”
