Coachella is over, YouTubers go in peace. For the first year the Californian festival broadcast performances from seven different stages on as many YouTube channels, increasing the offering on the Internet. After Saturday's rockier day, Coachella Sunday was marked by a first: a headlining Latin artist, Karol G, who gave a short speech about the artists and the Latin community «that have been facing problems in this country of late. We are on their side.” There were interesting guests, see MIA, Camila Cabello and Travis Barker, and even a bit of rock with Wet Leg and Iggy Pop who, not for the first time, left the stage locked in a coffin.
Karol G, first Latin headliner of the festival
Karol G made history as Coachella's first Latina headliner. The Colombian singer paid homage to Latin music of all kinds, from salsa to reggaeton to mariachi, played by an entirely female group, with a cover of Gloria Estefan, the historic I'll hold you. Among the guests, Becky G, Wisin and the Texan Greg González of Cigarettes After Sex. After Sabrina Carpenter's Hollywood show, the latest headliner has also recovered elements, sounds and costumes from traditional showbiz. It was a colorful concert, with choreography by Parris Goebel, who among other things curated Rihanna's Super Bowl. Karol G thanked “the legendary Latin artists” who performed at Coachella before her and who allowed her to be there. “It's not just about me, it's about the entire Latino community, my people,” he said on stage about this historic first. «At the same time it concerns all Latinos who have faced problems in this country in recent times. We are on their side. I stand with the Latino community and at the same time I am proud that the best of who we are comes out. Unity, resilience and strength of spirit.”
Iggy Pop leaves in a coffin
Crooked, limping, shirtless, unyielding, Iggy Pop played a set full of Stooges songs. He left the stage sticking his tongue out while, as had happened in the past, they locked him in a coffin and took him away.
MIA and Diplo sing 'Paper Planes'
During Major Lazer's set, MIA unexpectedly took to the stage to sing her first big hit with Diplo Paper Planeswhich still sounds relevant after 18 years. In the meantime, on another stage Black Flag was performing, a historic American hardcore group of which little remains: the historic guitarist Greg Ginn flanked by musicians who were children when MIA debuted. Among the other guests of the day, Camila Cabello appeared on Young Thug's stage to sing Havana and Travis Barker with the Clipse.
The Wet Leg proPal pin
Among the most anticipated rock bands, Wet Leg played a dozen songs including Chaise Longue And CPRthe latter with a phone call on stage with Horsegiirl (“Hello, 999, what's your emergency? Well, the thing is I, I, I, I, I I'm in love”). On the strap of Rhian Teasdale's guitar there is a pin with the Palestinian flag.
FKA Twigs' revenge
FKA Twigs was scheduled for Coachella in 2025, but canceled the performance and entire North American tour due to visa issues. Yesterday they took revenge with a 75-minute set on the Mojave Stage which was also a celebration of the ballroom scene (“Let's get ready to vogue in this motherfucker”, announced Dashaun Wesley) and of the euphoria that can be felt in a club “and which can transcend the human form”. We saw the pole for pole dancing and also a bit of emotion for Cellophane.
