Kavinsky, the French DJ and producer who became one of the recent symbols of French touch, has died at the age of 50. Vincent Belorgey, this is his real name, was found lifeless in his apartment in the 18th arrondissement of Paris, as confirmed by police sources and the capital's prosecutor's office. The discovery dates back to the evening of Tuesday 28 July.
The causes of death remain unknown for now. The Paris prosecutor's office opened an investigation to establish the origin of the death, specifying that the rescuers did not detect any suspicious elements on the spot. In the next few days the necessary analyzes will be carried out to clarify what happened.
His name is mainly linked to Nightcallthe 2010 song that made him internationally famous. Nicolas Winding Refn chose him to open Drivethe 2011 film starring Ryan Gosling as a Hollywood stuntman who acts as a driver for robberies at night. From there the piece lived a second life made up of remixes, covers and reinterpretations.
The general public had recently rediscovered him, thanks to that single. In 2024, in fact, it had brought a new version of Nightcall on stage at the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics, created together with Phoenix and the Belgian singer Angèle.
His music was born from the cross between French house and the synthetic atmospheres of 80s soundtracks. Kavinsky himself said that he was inspired by the video games of that decade, by detective series such as Miami Vice and to the cinema of Dario Argento. In his career he has released two albums, OutRun in 2013 and Reborn in 2022, the latter released after an almost ten-year recording silence.
