The second half of July is the tax deadline period. For those who are not in the profession it is a nightmare made up of F24, advance payments and contributions. And this is where the protagonist of the song enters the scene: the accountant, who with absolute certainty separates everyone's VAT. A technical gesture which, in the paradoxical world of the piece, becomes a reason for irresistible attraction.
The comic mechanism is declared by the artist himself, who explains where the song comes from.
“The two things I don't understand are emotions and taxes; but if you somehow survive with the former, with the latter you risk having your furniture seized. My new single is born precisely from that sense of suffocation and bewilderment that comes over me every time I have to deal with invoices, deadlines and tax pressure”.
The choice of genre is not accidental, and it is Chaste himself to clarify it:
“There are people born with a talent for Excel sheets, capable of looking at a balance sheet and seeing poetry in it. And then there's me, who as soon as I see a VAT deposit I start to hyperventilate. The accountant takes to the dance floor is a dance-industrial piece, because the only way I know to exorcise VAT anxiety and the terror of F24 is to transform them into a collective catharsis on the dancefloor”.
The end of his story is also the summary of the song: “If we really have to risk ending up under a bridge, we might as well get there by dancing”.
Analysis: taxation as erotic material
The device of the piece is supported by a register shift. The bureaucratic lexicon, which normally inhabits forms and circulars, is treated as seductive material: the separation of VAT becomes a gesture of power, the accountant a saving figure to whom one can vote. It's the same method that Immanuel Casto applied for twenty years to the themes of sex and morality, but here the target shifts to terrain that no one had yet thought of eroticizing.
The feat with Georgieness it is not decorative. His voice, recognizable in Italian indie-rock, brings a roughness to the piece that holds together the irony and the rhythmic thrust, preventing the gimmick from exhausting itself in the joke.
Then there is an element of context that matters. The release date, July 17, falls right in the tax deadline window: the song arrives exactly at the moment in which its theme is most concrete for those who listen to it. A coincidence that is part of the project.
