The debut of the Heimito Künst project left one stunned by its construction and the nature of the sounds. A first whirlwind step from which the kraut-inspired low-fidelity structures gradually turned towards more accessible and more enjoyable results. This process culminated in 2024 in the interesting collaboration with Dennis Callaci, oriented towards the exploration of the song form. What remains unchanged is the lysergic attitude, the lo-fi attitude and the Teutonic roots of the sound.
With “Vol.3” literary inspiration returns – it's up to Thomas Bernhard to act as godfather – and the discussion of normalization of the material continues. Not simplification, but rather the search for a more linear listening environment, which in this specific case is fully rooted in the use of reiteration. A choice underlying the entire work, which borrows the concept of “auditory residue” from the theories of the otologist Viktor Urbantschitsch.
The exasperating circularity of the synthetic modulations at the opening of “I Fall From The Shadows And Burn” is a clear example of this. A hypnotic substrate on which an atmospheric theme similar to certain Bohren & der Club of Gore brand nocturnes is grafted. However, the taste for ripples does not disappear, those that incessantly scratch the wave texture guided by a skeletal bass in “Put The Mask And Go Out” or that undermine the Kosmische inclinations wing Tangerine Dream by “Mirror Game”.
With the collaboration of the usual Simon Balestrazzi, the enigmatic Heimito Künst builds his album less inclined to narrative tout court in favor of an immersive whole shaped by analogue machines, which culminates in a last melancholy song with new wave legacies in the background. What will vol.4 have in store for us?
