The world of international songwriting loses one of its most sincere, visceral and generous souls.
Glen Hansard died this morning at the age of 56 due to a road accident near Lucan, just outside his beloved Dublin.
Born in 1970 in the working-class neighborhood of Ballymun, Hansard began his adventure with music in the purest and roughest way possible: playing as a busker on the streets of the Irish capital. From those first performances, pavement after pavement, the spark was born to found i TheFramesthe historic folk-rock band with which in the nineties he became an absolute point of reference for the European indie scene.
The singer-songwriter had formed a visceral and profound bond with Italy: from the historic forays to Lucca, a city to which he was very attached and where he often held surprise acoustic sets. In fact, four new concerts were scheduled for December 2026 in Italy.
With his passing, authorial music loses an extraordinary performer, capable of breaking strings and hearts with the sole strength of his voice and an acoustic guitar.
