The live version from Maradona of A Rich and a Poor Man
The recording comes from the evening of June 28, 2026the last of three sold out dates at the Maradona Stadium and the conclusion of the rapper's first stadium tour. That concert was broadcast live in its entirety worldwide on Prime Video, Twitch and Amazon Music, a rare case for an Italian event.
It is not the first collaboration between the artist and the platform. It had already been released exclusively on June 10th Photography – Iceland Sessions (Amazon Music Original)an unreleased version of another song from the same album.
In the tour lineup A rich man and a poor man it occupied a specific position, in the final part of the show, where the story becomes more intimate before the closing. At Maradona it was one of the most popular moments of the evening, with the stadium singing the chorus together with the artist.
The meaning of A rich man and a poor man by Geolier
The piece is constructed like a dialogue. A rich man questions a poor man about his daily life, with questions that seem to arise from curiosity but betray the distance between the two worlds: how do you do when it rains, how do you do when your child cries, how do you do when at the end of the week you have nothing and you promised to take him to the seaside.
The poor man's response never reaches a practical level. It comes to that of dignity. The rain becomes the lesser evil, the glass on the ground fills with rain water instead of coins, and the hardest question remains suspended: what am I worth if I have nothing.
The reversal comes at the end, when the rich man sits next to him and says something that the poor man will never forget: those who grow up without shortcomings will end up feeling everything as a lack, those who grow up wanting something will one day get it. It is the point at which the song stops being a comparison between two economic conditions and becomes a reflection on desire.
Analysis of the text: two worlds that speak to each other without understanding each other
The question and answer structure supports the whole piece, but it doesn't work like a real dialogue: the rich man's questions seek solutions, the poor man's answers describe a condition. It is precisely this gap that says the distance between the two, more than any description.
The images are all concrete and everyday, never symbolic in a forced way. The rain seeping under the bridge, the glass on the ground, the promise of the sea on Saturday: these are details that anyone recognizes, and which weigh more than abstract reasoning on inequalities.
Neapolitan is not a color choice. The language allows Geolier to stay inside the story rather than above, and to give the poor a voice that never sounds victimized: the speaker doesn't ask for mercy, he notes.
The refrain shifts the plane from the social to the existential. The sky exploding, the angel descending, the wrists covered by watches and bracelets that become handcuffs: here the theme is no longer to have or not to have, but the risk of going through life distracted, looking outside for something that hasn't yet been found inside.
The text of A rich man and a poor man by Geolier
A rich man said to a poor man: “How do you usually talk?”
It's very important that the water even penetrates under the bridge
“How do you do it when I have a baby?”
“As you do when nothing appears at the end of the week
And what happened to my son on Saturday when he went to the sea?”
It's a life that chases and sounds, they don't follow instinct, they don't know where they are
And the void becomes unbridgeable when the life of a mother is lost
'This glass on the ground does not hold coins but only rain water
And because you don't want to take it and take it from whom do you get it? And rich people look at their backs, yeah
'O poor man without any worries he comes back because the rain was less bad
The rich man covers himself with his umbrella and the poor man sits under the entrance hall
Little or poor man looked into his eyes and said: “Why was he poor?”
'O problem, yes you are thinking about this poor ass because it doesn't keep you deaf
And then he dies
When life makes you feel bored by all things
'Oh poor man, don't you keep me happy
'O rich man, yes, but he doesn't sleep
Everything today has a price
Every morning is a bad time
Every cloud has a hole
For he always saw 'by light' and sideways
Don't forget when the sky explodes
And n'angelo 'and scennere
L'anema 'a pierde sin
We covered the wrists with the strap, the bracelet, the handcuffs
Hugged, we remained alert to the wind
And then all his life he spent his life distracted
With nothing, with little, with too much, with maybe I can do it
Penzavo ca 'into the sky there was cuddly that we found ourselves
It doesn't keep anything in sight until it finds you again
'Life is made of habitat
When it holds, a little or the body adapts
'And creatures looking for food
Fathers and mothers are looking for clinging
When he always ate cutted
When he is always appreciated I hug him
No matter what, who tried to make me
We eat, nothing remains on the plate
It's usual for us to be rich and poor
They speak often, they understand immediately
When the rich man falls asleep, do it and ring it
While the poor man still has a nightmare
When the rich man said:
“So what can you tell the difference between you and me?”
'O poor man, then he gets angry, if he's angry, he sheds tears and says:
“So, do you want to know how I feel today?
Our son has it and he's not happy
Because inside the class are all the other countries
I already have a phone and a bike”
'E jurnate' and sea, all in the family, all documented by photographs
All the latest model of shoes
And they don't go home on a bus
So what song? What do I have? What am I worth?
'O rich man sits down next to us and tells us, 'Int'â darling, no matter what, he hasn't forgotten:
“He who grows without lack will ensure that all things are lack
Those who grow up already desire will make sure they can have it tomorrow
