interview by Stefania Clerici
There are projects that are born almost by chance and then become a real artistic journey. That's what happened to Fabrizio GrecchiMilanese pianist and composer, with his format Beatles Piano Solotoday a consolidated presence within Milan City Planthe festival that has been decorating the city with piano music for years in the month of May.
From intuition to format: the birth of Beatles Piano Solo
It all begins right in the streets and widespread spaces of Piano City. An opportunity that arrived suddenly, a specific request – to play the Beatles – and an instinctive response:
“I!”
An immediate, almost impulsive adhesion, which however hid a significant detail: the show, at that moment, did not yet exist.
Yet that is precisely where it takes shape Beatles Piano Solo.
“The show didn't exist. But from then on it existed.”
From that initial episode, the project has developed to become a permanent fixture of the festival:
“Beatles Piano Solo has had a space in Piano City for 15 years, and I'm really happy about it.”

The reinterpretation: fidelity to the melody, freedom in execution
Beatles Piano Solo it is not a simple tribute, but a personal reinterpretation that is different every time. The equilibrium point it's clear: keeping the identity of the songs recognizable, leaving room for expressive freedom.
“The important thing is that the melody of the song remains clear so that people can recognize the piece and sing it. The rest comes by itself.”
It is precisely in this space that it comes into play improvisation, key element of his live performance:
“I prepare the set list and the arrangements, but then when I play live new ideas arrive and then I improvise.”
The result is one constantly evolving shownever identical to itself, where each performance arises from a dialogue between technique, instinct and moment.
The piano today: an instrument without borders
In Grecchi's work, the piano moves away from a purely classical dimension to become a contemporary instrument, open to contamination and sonic experimentation.
“The piano is an instrument with infinite possibilities.”
From historical influences to the most recent sonic explorations, lHis vision embraces a constantly changing idea of music:
“The future of music, in general and not just for piano, is fortunately unpredictable. Something wonderful will always come out.”
An approach that reflects a increasingly hybrid music scene, where tradition and innovation coexist and transform.
The relationship with the public: a shared concert
One of the central elements of Beatles Piano Solo it is the direct involvement of the public. This is not a one-way performance, but a participatory experience.
“This concert is not a simple tribute to the Beatles, but my personal thanks to the band who brought me closer to music and the piano.”
And above all:
“I do the show together with the audience.”
The audience recognizes the melodies, sings them, gets into the rhythm of the performance. Music thus becomes one shared spacein which the artist and the listener construct the experience together.
