Last December, organisers confirmed six headliners – Fontaines D.C., Florence + The Machine, Dave, Charli XCX, RAYE and Chase & Status – along with Kasabian as a Thursday night exclusive for Leeds only. Two years ago, HorsegiirL told NME that “making people happy is something I take quite seriously”. The masked German DJ (a.k.a. Stella Stallion) claims to have been discovered by chance by one “Whitney Horseton”, so when her songs ‘My Barn My Rules’ and ‘My Little White Pony’ went viral, Miss Stallion saddled up and became a festival staple. Consequently, HorsegiirL decamped to Ecuador for four months,…
It's good news to find Social Distortion again. Not only because “Born To Kill” arrives fifteen years after the last album of unreleased songs and Mike Ness' well-known health vicissitudes, but above all because the band proves to still be fully recognizable and artistically vital. The most comforting aspect of the album is that it does not simply certify the survival of the group. On the contrary, it reaffirms with conviction all the elements that have defined its identity: rough and dusty guitars, essential but incisive riffs, melodies with a strong emotional impact and that peculiar synthesis between punk rock,…
Charli XCX has discussed her move into cinema, acknowledging that the musician-to-actor path can be perceived as “cringe”. The ‘Brat’ artist stars in the new drama Erupcja, about a woman who reconnects with someone from her past while stranded in Warsaw with her boyfriend due to a volcanic eruption. It’s the first traditional acting lead role for her, having played a fictionalised version of herself in mockumentary The Moment and a supporting role in the fantasy drama 100 Nights Of Hero. On Monday (June 1), she appeared at a Q&A for the film in London and discussed the reason for…
