Titled Dare to Be Stupid, its soundtrack will be comprised of parody songs from throughout Yankovic’s extensive spoof oeuvre, including “White & Nerdy” (his take on “Ridin’” by Chamillionaire), “Amish Paradise” (Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise”), “Eat It” (“Beat It”), “Like a Surgeon” (“Like a Virgin”) and “Smells Like Nirvana” (this one’s pretty obvious).“Ever since I was a middle-aged man, I’ve always wanted to be a part of the New York theatre community,” Yankovic said in a statement to Deadline. “Plus, the one thing people always say about…

Isaiah Rashad’s new album title is hardly subtle: ‘It’s Been Awful’. Then again, his records have always been frank about life’s tough moments. From acclaimed 2016 debut ‘The Sun’s Tirade’ to 2021’s ‘The House Is Burning’, Rashad has long been the quiet outlier of Top Dawg Entertainment: woozy, moody and unwaveringly introspective, blending laidback Southern rap with neo-soul and jazz while continuously mining introspective terrain his labelmates only occasionally touched. His last album followed a tumultuous stretch of homelessness and rehab, and after another five-year wait, Rashad’s third full-length arrives out of an equally bruising period: relapses, family fractures and…

I knew a girl who wrote'Silent all these years'Where is she?We too asked ourselves, where did that girl go who in just a few years changed songwriting forever with her small earthquakes. After the very thunderous falls of the current millennium, we welcomed the newfound composure started with Deutsche Grammophon and evolved into the good “Unrepentant Geraldines”, leveling out, however, on a prudent and lazy sufficiency in the following years. In this scenario of limited expectations, how can we not react with renewed fear to the news of a titanic event concept of seventeen tracks? A declared political invective, territory…

When the reference to Pascoli's little boy began to be repeated incessantly among the school desks, my CD player first, then MP3, investigated with cautious fear the American emo of the late nineties, that of Sunny Day Real Estate, Texas is The Reason, Mineral. After all, what was more similar to the concept of a child than these boys, who soon became men, who looked at themselves with such ferocious emotional naivety? Midwest emo, that specific subgenre made up of serpentine intertwined guitar arpeggios and math rock-style drum rhythms, would have arrived later in my life, but I still believe…
