“One for them, one for me.” That’s a movie-making philosophy often attributed to Martin Scorsese, capturing the seesawing cadences of a film career: make a commercial project and then a personal one. It’s tempting to view Charli XCX’s eighth album, ‘Music, Fashion, Film’, through Marty’s mantra (he appears on the album cover, after all, alongside her other artistic GOATs John Cale and Marc Jacobs). The world turned her go-for-broke club-pop opus ‘Brat’ into the biggest album of her career and a cultural phenomenon, and Charli has responded by coolly spiking any and all ensuing expectations of her and her music.…
“Untitled (1—8)” by the new trio formed by Giuseppe Ielasi, Fabio Perletta and Giulia Bruno inaugurates not only an artistic synergy, but also and above all represents the starting point of fold/interval. An audiovisual platform of which the authors of the work themselves are supporters. The interpenetration between sound and image, the extreme editorial care in giving it a complete shape are the cornerstones of the project. Following a consolidated practice, Ielasi and Perletta establish a dialogue made of essential gestures, spaces of reverberation, changing dynamics. Reduction is the direction, accuracy in the choice of elements to relate to the…
Erwan Keravec is one of the Scottish bagpipe masters, known for his collaboration with Mats Gustaffson in the duo Luft. Keeper of tradition but also innovator, he is bold in his intertwining of minimalism with the sound of the bagpipe.Terry Riley and his album “In C” represented the first author revisited by the Breton musician; it then fell to Philip Glass the role of author to be plundered and reinvented for the excellent “8 Sonneurs Pour Philip Glass”. “Whitewater” is an adventurous work written by Keravec himself: three long compositions that favor experimentation at the expense of accessibility and pleasantness.…
We know, the world of cinema is not like that of music. You may be the biggest pop star (or rock star) around but that doesn't mean you can handle the weight of the big screen. Especially if the big screen is the maxi-IMAX-70mm one as Nolan intended. The weight of cinema made in Nolan has also affected the most important and followed rapper of the last 10 years, Travis Scott, someone who has always flirted with the epic, as demonstrated by his latest Circus Maximus and his mammoth tours that set a new bar for rap concerts. There was no…
