I think the dancefloor is dead So now we're making rock music (from “Rock Music”) Let's start with the prologue. Archived the Brat-Summera phenomenal musical and marketing operation that marked the entry of Charli A soundtrack for which he chose to turn off all the fluorescent green lights to present himself as modern and introspective songwriter. A few weeks later and here she is already ready to announce the imminent release of a new album, strongly characterized, with which she intends to present a new version of herself, presented as her “rock album”. A choice underlined by a provocation regarding…
On the latest episode of The Daily Show, Jon Stewart took aim at Donald Trump‘s rambling speech during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The president spoke for nearly an hour during the annual event, which was rescheduled for Friday night after a gunman fired shots inside the Washington Hilton in April. Stewart played a clip of Trump attempting to make a joke during the speech, which drew silence from the audience at the WHCD. “Normally I’d say, ‘Don’t quit your day job,’” Stewart said. “But in this case I will make an exception.” Many of Trump’s cronies have praised the…
Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial began Monday with her ex-husband, Patrick Clancy, taking the witness stand. Prosecutors accused the Massachusetts mother of strangling her three children — Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan — to death at their home in a Boston suburb in 2023. While Clancy has not denied killing the children, she claims that after the birth of her youngest child, she developed postpartum psychosis — a relatively rare diagnosis that can cause women to develop delusions and even hallucinations, according to the National Institutes of Health. Both Clancy’s lawyer and her husband, Patrick Clancy, support her claim that she was not responsible…
The Patagonian city of San Carlos de Bariloche is a beautiful place, lakeside and fringed by tall, snow-dusted mountains. This is where Argentinian artist Luciano Lamtzev, aka Lumtz, grew up, and where he spent two years recording Tesoros, documenting a relaxing-sounding life: lying by the water, walking through nature, listening to the sounds of the city around him. (Apparently he really doesn’t like wearing headphones.) The process was multi-faceted, yielding field recordings, notebooks filled with drawings and ideas, and, eventually, compositions. Tesoros is a gorgeous, sometimes twee record of downtempo electroacoustic sketches that highlight the mundane majesty of living in…
Linda Perhacs, the folk singer-songwriter who found cult fame decades after the release of her 1970 debut, Parallelograms, has been reported missing. A group of her friends and longtime collaborators—including her former manager Laurel Stearns, Julia Holter, and DubLab co-founder Mark “Frosty” McNeill—have shared a statement online in hopes of finding the 82-year-old musician after last hearing from her eight months ago. They’re asking for anyone with information regarding Perhacs’ location or well-being to contact Stearns at lstearns@primarywave.com.Stearns and friends last saw Perhacs eight months ago at an assisted living facility in San Fernando Valley, California, where she had resided…
After years of frustration over leaked music, Ariana Grande is taking the issue to court. According to Billboardthe Grammy-winning artist filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles court Monday and claimed that anonymous hackers stole unreleased music, photos, and video footage that are “part of her personal and professional creative process and that are not intended for public consumption.” She alleged they targeted her photographers and producers to gain access to the materials, then sold it “on the dark web” for large sums of money. Grande accused the hackers of violating the “sacred relationship that exists between her and her fans”…
Jilian Medford’s output as Ian Sweet has followed something of a long conceptual arc. When she first began releasing music as a Berklee student over a decade ago, Medford earned a reputation for “sad girl” anthems built around dreamy, guitar-forward pop. Things took a turn on her best and most daring album, 2021’s Show Me How You Disappear; when Medford sang, “I’ve been waiting to tell you what it’s like to be alive,” it was a testament to the long road she took to finally flourish. The ensuing effervescence of 2023’s Sucker hinted that the journey paid off. But Medford…
Since she was a teenager, Syd has sculpted the sound of alternative rap and R&B. At 16, she was the audio engineer, and eventual producer and DJ, of the pioneering Los Angeles rap collective Odd Future, which then launched Syd’s solo career and those of Frank Ocean, Tyler, the Creator, and Earl Sweatshirt. A few years later she started The Internet, whose ’70s funk-tinged style has since become a mainstay in indie R&B. She has also released two solo albums that mix trap-inflected soul and airy R&B, and worked as a producer for artists including Vince Staples and Beyoncé—all before…
Lately, Casablancas has been trying hard to be heard, but he’s incapable of expressing a political opinion without ironic padding. Anyone expecting a Rage Against the Machine turn after the Strokes’ anti-imperialist 2026 Coachella performance of “Oblivius” should recall that Casablancas joked to some Oxford students a couple months later that he thought the bold agitprop stage design would be “a treat that influencers would really appreciate.” And Casablancas’ viral “Subway Takes” assertion that “American Zionists get the benefits of white privileged people but talk like they are Black people during slavery” came only after he excoriated voice memos and…
Friends, collaborators, and members of the music community have posted a public plea to anyone knowing information on the whereabouts of beloved singer-songwriter Linda Perhacs. The statement, written by Perhac’s former manager Laurel Stearns, claims that the 82-year-old songwriter was discharged from a residential care facility eight months ago under the supervision of her legal guardian. Perhac’s friends and collaborators state that they haven’t been able to contact Perhacs nor her guardian. In an Instagram post alongside a photo of the singer, Stearns wrote, “LINDA PERHACS FANS, WE NEED YOUR HELP. LINDA HAS GONE MISSING.” The release itself states that…
