In honor of Father’s Day, Moshe Kasher revealed he was diagnosed with tonsil cancer. The comedian and writer shared a series of slides of Instagram detailing his experience, including a recent surgery. Kasher explained that he discovered the cancer while working on the Judd Apatow–Glen Powell project The Comeback King in Savannah three months earlier. “I found a bump on my tonsil,” he wrote. “It was cancer, which did not rule so hard.” Last week, Kasher underwent surgery at Cedars Sinai, which involved “a Jewish robot” yanking “my jaw open for five hours.” “This has been the most terrifying and consciousness…
The story of Open To The Sea began in 2017. Born as an occasional collaboration between Enrico Coniglio and Matteo Uggeri, it turned into a stable parallel path that took its name from that first piece. Starting from “Ten Rooms Under The Sea”, released at the end of 2023, the project has become a trio with the inclusion of Saverio Rosi. “Beyond The Emotional Flood” is the seventh product of this synergy and continues to speak with that peculiar electroacoustic lexicon explored and fine-tuned also thanks to many external interventions. A sound inclined towards emotional content, built on a measured…

«Once upon a time» is the new EP by Tommi Scerdreleased by Pioggia Rossa Dischi: a work born between Italy and China, as if music were a way to hold distant places together and make them, for an instant, communicating. Craig Fortnam's name is quite familiar to our readers, particularly from his stints with the North Sea Radio Orchestra, a ensemble chamber-prog-folk which, among the many merits, has that of having recalled and brought to the attention of the new generations Robert Wyatt's masterpiece “Rock Bottom”, skilfully reworked with the complicity of ex-Henry Cow John Greaves, William D. Drake (Cardiacs) and Annie Barbazza, for an album (“Folly Bololey (Songs From Robert Wyatt's Rock Bottom)”) recorded in the Italian Piacenza. Craig Fortnam also usually performs under the name Arch Garrison (a duo completed by James Larcombe, former member of NSRO, and…

When John Prine was 14 or 15 his brother Dave took him down to the Old Town School of Folk Music. John’s problem, his brother figured, was a lack of direction. He was interested in gymnastics and art but otherwise just hung around the pool hall. Little by little, Dave was getting him into folk music, teaching him a few chords and playing him Carter Family records. In the early ’60s, the Old Town School was located in a ramshackle storefront on Chicago’s North Avenue, but it had already hosted legends like Pete Seeger, Mahalia Jackson, and Big Bill Broonzy.…
Anyone can call themselves genreless; anyone can sell their guitars and/or turntables and buy the other. It’s much harder to sound like several genres playing at once, as Philly act Cold Court do. Led by siblings Mini Serrano and Jojo Lavina-Maldonado, they began as a post-punk band in the vein of Black Midi or Geese. After releasing a handful of songs that captured the band in a studio, they steadily embraced Ableton, trying to outdo each other with songs that became increasingly blown-out and distorted. Now they sound like the suit from A Scanner Darkly if it were a band:…
