After a mysterious seven-year absence, the Jack White-produced album will also be reissued on CD and vinyl from Third Man Records
Loretta Lynn’s late-career classic, Van Lear Rose, produced by Jack White, will return to streaming services after seven years when it’s reissued next month on Third Man Records.
The remastered album will arrive Nov. 13, with new vinyl and CD editions to accompany the streaming re-release. The reissue also includes “Just to Have You Back,” a rarity previously only available on the Third Man Vault edition of Van Lear Rose. Ahead of the full album’s return, the single “Miss Being Mrs.” is available to stream now.
Patsy Russell, Lynn’s daughter, said of the reissue, “It is an incredible honor to work again with Jack and his amazing team at Third Man to re-release this incredible album. Our mother’s spirit lives on through this timeless music, and we are thrilled that fans old and new will be reminded of this great work.”
Van Lear Rose mysteriously disappeared from streaming services about seven years ago. The exact reason for its removal remains unclear, and a rep for Third Man said the label wasn’t able to provide any additional insight on the matter. (Van Lear Rose was originally released on Interscope Records, though Lynn spent most of her career with Decca and MCA; after Van Lear Rose, she signed with Sony’s Legacy imprint, which released her final four albums. Lynn died in 2022.)
Released in 2004 and hailed as a late-career masterpiece, Van Lear Rose was a critical and commercial hit. It reached Number Two on the Country Albums chart and Number 24 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart, making it the most successful crossover album of Lynn’s career. The LP went on to win Best Country Album at the Grammys, while Lynn and White won Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for their duet, “Portland Oregon.”
