Dan Friel and BJ Warshaw of Parts & Labor met while working at the Knitting Factory, an iconic Manhattan venue, just before the turn of the century. It was an auspicious introduction for two musicians who would launch a noise-rock institution that helped lead he city’s underground resurgence in the early 2000s. While more overtly political and less commercially successful than their contemporaries, Parts & Labor stood alongside bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and LCD Soundsystem while owing more to free jazz and avant-garde. Over the course of five albums, they sharpened their squall into anthemic noise-punk before calling…
As rumors and public opinion swirled following the announcement that Ariana Grande would be taking a “step back” after the end of her current tour, the singer took to the stage on Monday night to speak to her fans directly. During her Eternal Sunshine stop at the United Center in Chicago, Grande paused the performance to “clear the air about a few things.” “Sometimes when a story comes out that’s not directly from me, things can get a little blown out of proportion, so I wanted to speak to my fans directly tonight because I love you so much,” Grande said…
The rapper has been jokingly urging fans to run up streams of her new single, ‘Ah Ha,’ so she can ‘buy more Chipotle!’ If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, Rolling Stone may receive an affiliate commission. Cardi B has dined at some of the fanciest restaurants around the world, but when it comes to her go-tos at home, it turns out the rapper is just like us. Cardi took to Twitter Monday night to reveal her favorite Chipotle order, after a fan asked the rapper what she likes in her burrito…
Tracy Geneviève Amare is too young to have direct knowledge of MTV’s heyday. The Los Angeles-based producer, rapper, and singer was born in 2004, by which point the network’s sidelining of music was very much underway. Laguna Beach, The Ashlee Simpson Show, and Pimp My Ride all debuted that year, joining a programming slate already stuffed with reality fare. By the time Amare was 6, TRL had been cancelled, and the network had dropped “Music Television” from its logo. In light of those facts, the title of Amare’s new EP, Q: From Where Do Our Primal Instincts Originate? A: MTV!,…
Eden Aurelius is a relatively recent arrival to New York’s underground club scene, but her slim discography so far shows remarkable focus. With the exception of an early, techno-leaning compilation track that pushed to the center of the dancefloor, virtually everything she has put out so far has used the tools of dance music to carve out a space of sanctuary, pairing hypnotic dub rhythms with billowing ambient chords.Aurelius’ reference points are familiar: artists like Deepchord, Vladislav Delay, Topdown Dialectic, and fellow travelers Purelink, who turned up as remixers on the New York-based producer’s debut EP, Plateau, in 2024. (She…
In some ways, XXXXX seems like a survey of what Arca might have been listening to lately. She recently interviewed 2hollis and expressed admiration for his music, and you can hear his influence (and maybe Skrillex’s) in the muscled EDM-rap of “Fxck.” I also hear the glory days of wonky, post-dubstep, and deconstructed club all over: “Raver” recalls the word-blotting broken beat of Jamie Vex’d, “Grip” channels the hi-tech EDM sound design of EPROM, and the hyperactive “Taneando”—which pleads, “I know you want me to come,” in Spanish over and over until it sounds like a threat—is something like a…

The new project, which is being developed with the help of Jackson’s son Marlon, is set to debut on BLK Prime. An exact release date has not been announced. According to an announcement by the Jacksons on Instagram, “The Manager. The Mythology. The Legend. is an original series” that will offer “a…
If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, Rolling Stone may receive an affiliate commission. The first deaths from the cyclosporiasis outbreak in the U.S. have been reported, with two people in Michigan dying from complications related to the gastrointestinal illness this month. More than 30 states have confirmed cases of cyclosporiasis since May, with thousands of patients reporting severe diarrhea, bloating, cramping, and flu-like symptoms. The illness is transmitted through a microscopic parasite called cyclospora, which is spread through food or water that has been contaminated by fecal matter. The FDA recalled iceberg…

A former X Factor finalist has denied murdering a social media influencer by running her over with a car in central London. Gabrielle Carrington allegedly struck Klaudia Zakrzewska outside Argyll Street’s Inca nightclub at around 4.00am on April 19. Per BBC News, 29-year-old Carrington appeared at the Old Bailey via video link from Bronzefield prison to deny the charge. She had been initially charged with attempted murder, but that charge was ultimately changed to murder after Zakrzewska died from her injuries six days after the incident. Carrington, who was not represented in court by a barrister, also denied a second…
