New Order have announced that Stephen Morris and Gillian Gilbert will not be touring with the band “for the foreseeable future”. The Manchester band confirmed the news in a statement on social media today (June 29), in which they said the decision had been made “due to personal health reasons”, without going into any further detail. Morris was the drummer in Joy Division alongside Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Ian Curtis, and the remaining members formed New Order after Curtis’ death in 1980. Gilbert joined shortly afterwards, becoming a defining part of the band’s move from post-punk into electronic music. The news marks a major change to New…
The music biopic surpassed Oppenheimer’s box office record two months after its release Michael is not only the highest-grossing music biopic ever, it has now become the highest-grossing biopic of all time just two months after it hit theaters. It has scored $977 million at the box office, surpassing the previous record holder, Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning Oppenheimer, which earned $965 million three years ago, according to Variety and The Wrap. A rep for Lionsgate did not immediately return Rolling Stone’s request for comment. The Antoine Fuqua-directed film, where Jaafar Jackson portrays his superstar uncle, had already scored a record during…

Ahead of America's 250th anniversary, Donald Trump has diverted a significant chunk of government resources toward the supposed beautification of the nation's capital. He “fixed” fountains, gilded statues in his favorite shade of gold, and planned self-aggrandizing monuments. Now, with the semiquincentennial only a few days away, it's clear the president's year of lavish renovation was more about honoring his ego than honoring the nation. Case in point: his plan to renovate a local public golf course despite a pending federal lawsuit to block the project. “I just returned from a tour of various Statues, Monuments, Fountains and, most importantly,…
Article by Alessandro Amendolara I have long since lost count of the concerts of Elio and the Tense Stories that I have seen over the years. But it was only tonight, in Biella, that I understood how the “Concertozzo” is much more than a musical event: it is the tip of the iceberg of a genuinely imperfect organization, capable of transforming an evening of music into an experience with profound social value. And then there's the rest. When all this happens in the charming pre-Alpine setting that gave you birth – literally a hundred meters from the bedroom where, as…

Hundreds of thousands of music fans endured disruption and disappointment this past weekend (June 25-28), as major festivals and outdoor gigs across Europe faced extreme heat and severe storms. On Friday (June 26) Defqon.1 – a 50,000 capacity dance music event in The Netherlands’ Biddinghuizen – cancelled the event. Organisers explained a “code red warning” had been issued by Dutch authorities for extreme heat. The continent-straddling heatdome weather event, that also brought record-breaking temperatures to parts of England, saw sections of the programme cancelled and fans evacuated at festivals such as Garorock (France), Paradise City (Belgium) and Scandal (Netherlands). Holger…
At Clive Davis’ funeral Monday, Alicia Keys paid tribute to the late, legendary record executive with a eulogy she titled, “A Letter to the Man Who Believed First.” The emotional speech found Keys recalling her first audition for Davis and expounding upon the endless support and friendship he offered her during their years working together. “You didn’t just sign an artist. You recognized the soul,” Keys said. “You saw not just the music I’d already made, but the music that was still sweeping inside of me, waiting for someone with the wisdom and the courage to call it forward. You…

Just two weeks after Bob Dylan guitarist Doug Lancio vanished from the tour and was replaced by jazz virtuoso Julian Lage, Bob Britt — who has played guitar in Dylan's band since 2019 — has apparently left the group as well. Over the weekend, Britt wrote “Sayonara Bobby” on his Facebook page along with an image of a plane flight from Austin, where the next Dylan show is set to take place at the Moody Amphitheater, to Nashville. In the comments, he told a fan, “I quit.” (A shoutout to Dylan superfan Harold Lepidus for flagging the posts.) The surprise…
