Produced by Alabama Shakes together with the manufacturer Shawn Everett, I Must Be Dreaming expands on the bold musical exploration that defined the previous album Sound & Color of the band.
Recorded in Nashville at Sound Emporium Studios and Blackbird Studio, the album dives into a nuanced psychedelic soul sound, exploring themes of love, mortality, human connection and the increasingly surreal contradictions of modern life.
Spontaneously conceived and written following the band's reunion at the end of 2024, I Must Be Dreaming was born from an unusually open creative process that allowed the songs to evolve in real time. Rediscovering the alchemy that made Alabama Shakes one of rock's most unique bands, Brittany Howard, Heath Fogg And Zac Cockrell they embraced spontaneity in the studio, broadening their sonic palette with instruments such as flute, harpsichord and sitar, as well as rich vocal arrangements. The result is their boldest and most emotionally charged album to date.
