Luca Tudisca public Dialoguethe new album out Friday July 17 on all digital platforms. Nine songs that marked his path, rearranged and recorded for the first time in a complete version: songs that had lived on stage and in the theater over the years, but which had never found a record label.
The project was created to celebrate ten years of the theatrical show Dialogue – Dialogue concertwith which the Sicilian singer-songwriter toured Italian theatres. It was to anticipate it The path to forgivenessreleased last week.
A record played, with a string quartet
The production is entrusted to the guitarist Vincenzo Angrisaniwho he worked with Paola Iezzi And Virginio. At a time when digital dominates production, the record is intentional played in full: no shortcuts, real instruments, and a string quartet entrusted to Martino Pellegrini.
“I start again from my old songs, which have given me so much. And it's right to let them go, free”he declares Tudisca. “Dialogue was my beginning and also the end of a journey. What led me to write new music that will arrive soon”.
The story traverses love in its different forms, with a Mediterranean and popular imagery that is rooted in the artist's Sicilian roots.
Dialogue, the story track by track
The path to forgiveness it is a waltz with a popular feel. It tells of a journey in which everyone is confronted with their own fragilities, and suggests that forgiveness is not a solitary act but a shared process. Alongside the references to the folklore tradition there is a tribute to the classical music of the last century. The guitar acts as the minstrel, the percussion moves the central part until the final party.
Music of a fisherman it is a dedication to music as a traveling companion. The fisherman becomes a metaphor for the artist: someone who lives between the sea and the horizon and returns every time with something to share. We talk about roots and the village where the singer-songwriter grew up, with the cello of Johanna Noah. It's the most up-tempo song on the album.
Nothing else it tells of a love made of presence and participation: the night that becomes awakening, the skin that becomes perfume, the success of the other that turns into one's own luck. It comes from the arpeggio of the guitar and is recorded as a dialogue between two guitars.
You feel it is the song of a mother who sees her son go away, knowing that he will not return. For a similar feeling, Tudisca he chose the only language that seemed possible to him: the Sicilian dialect. The song transforms the lack into a form of closeness, a silent dialogue with those who continue to be present.
Dialogue tells of two people who, after fifty years together, retrace their journey, amidst joys, arguments, tiredness and forgiveness. A relationship that lasts not because it is perfect, but because the two continue to talk to each other and choose each other. After a minimal opening, the arrangement is enriched without losing its acoustic soul.
Wonder it is a ballad that passes for everyday images: the air you breathe, the Christmas lights, a goodnight kiss. It is the only song that has guitar and voice, as the audience heard it in the theater.
And in the meantime talks about the difficulty of letting go of someone, and how the memory lives on in your thoughts. The piano is the supporting instrument, supported by the string quartet.
Look at me now reflects on time and the need to be recognized by those you love. The first part is sparse, accompanied only by the guitar until the second chorus; with the entry of the strings the piece opens, and the second voices of Luca they build a kind of orchestra. The ending is instrumental, with percussion and a melodic crescendo.
Small comes from feeling tiny in front of a big city, among millions of lives that flow by. But being small does not mean being insignificant: just as a blank sheet of paper can contain an entire world. At the end, a crescendo chorus was built, with the voices of children and friends.
Ten years of Dialogue, from the show to the album
The story of this album begins much earlier. Dialogue it was the unreleased song with which Luca Tudisca he had made himself known in the school of Friendsin the 2014-2015 edition, where he was part of the team led by Elisawho produced the single. The piece ended up on RTL 102.5's programming.
From that song the theater show was then born, which debuted in 2017 at the National Theater in Milan: the story of two Sicilians married for fifty years, born from an elderly couple that the singer-songwriter had met by chance. Directed by Mauro Simonelyrics by Elisabetta Tullithe actors on stage Elena Nieri And Matteo Volpotti together with Tudisca and his guitar.
There is another song on the album with a story behind it: Look at me now is the song with which, in 2016, Tudisca won the award for Best Performance a Musiculture.
