Jay-Z's concert at Yankee Stadium on Sunday night started three hours late as hundreds of people without tickets stormed the sold-out stadium's entrances.
“Hundreds of people gathered in large groups, who did not have tickets to last night's concert, overwhelmed ticket holders who were peacefully entering and, in some cases, violated security,” read a joint statement from Roc Nation, New York Yankees and Live Nation.
«As a result, the gates at all entrances to the stadium remained closed for an extended period of time. With the supervision and guidance of the New York Police Department, the gates have been reopened gradually, to ensure the safety of people both inside and outside the facility. The Yankees, Roc Nation and Live Nation express their deep gratitude to the NYPD and stadium security personnel for their management skills during the evening, ensuring the safety of spectators.”
The concert started well after midnight. Meanwhile, rumors began to circulate that Jay-Z's third New York night, organized to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubtcould have been cancelled. Jay-Z took the stage around 12.15am, apologizing and explaining what happened. “There were like 10,000 people outside,” he said. «I didn't want to start the show and risk someone being overwhelmed by the crowd… I'm sorry for the inconvenience. We'll have fun this evening.”
He kept his word and during the concert, which ended just before 3 in the morning, he performed pieces such as 99 Problems, FuckwithmeyouknowIgotit, Brooklyn's Finest and, as already happened in the first two evenings, he brought a series of guests on stage: Rihanna, Usher, Jeezy, Swizz Beatz and his wife Beyoncé, with whom he sang Drunk in Love.
