A less predictable setlist than usual, built between rarities, unexpected recoveries and songs that historical fans have been waiting for for years. The anticipation for Vasco Rossi's new tour is growing, while the first concrete rumors arrive from Rimini on the rehearsals in view of the debut on May 30th at the Nereo Rocco Stadium. A few days after the general rehearsals open to members of the official fan club, some videos circulating on social media have already revealed part of the songs tested by the rocker from Zocca.
Among the titles that emerged, “A new song for her”, “Ciao”, “Mi si exclusion”, “(For what I have to do) I'm a soldier”, “Alibi” and “Soap bubbles” stand out: a selection that suggests the desire to build a show less linked to the usual stadium classics and more oriented towards less popular episodes of his discography. The biggest surprise concerns “A new song for her”, absent from concerts for forty-one years. In fact, Vasco performed it only on the 1985 tour linked to “Cosa trova in città”, the album that contained the song. Even “(For what I have to do) I'm in the military” represents a rare recovery: it had been missing from the setlists for sixteen years. The last appearance dates back to 2010, during a date at the Nelson Mandela Forum in Florence. Before that it had been performed sporadically between the mid-nineties and the 1997 concert at the Fillmore in Cortemaggiore, remaining one of the least performed live pieces in Blasco's career.
“Ciao”, taken from “C'è chi dice no”, also returns after eight years: it last appeared on the 2018 tour, after an absence that had already lasted for over a decade. Choices that seem to speak directly to the most loyal audience, the one that knows even the less traveled corners of Vasco Rossi's repertoire by heart and that has long been asking for greater variety in the setlists.
Alongside the rarities, some unmissable songs from the live repertoire also emerged during the rehearsals, from “Every time” to “We are alone”, through “Rewind”, “A better world”, “Ti prendo e ti porto via”, “Sally” and “Albachiara”. But what inflamed the comments of fans online were above all the most unexpected recoveries.
Through a post published on Instagram, Vasco talked about the work behind the construction of the setlist: “The setlist will amaze you… it starts with a song that no one expects, rearranged. It will be a great blow”. For the singer, the opening song is decisive: “Once the first piece has been chosen, it's like the incipit of a book, the other songs follow suit.”
The Emilian singer-songwriter then explained the emotional mechanism that guides the concert: “The first three songs must be strong, tight, without pauses. With the fourth comes the emotional ballad. The songs must form a mental wave, both in the lyrics and in the music”. Vasco also highlighted the importance of balance between songs, including continuity of tones and alternating between more energetic moments and more intense passages.
In recent days Vasco Rossi also shared some videos of the rehearsals in Rimini: “Hours and hours at the stadium… sun in your face, music in your ears and rock in your veins. You try, you try again, you change, you start again”. And again: “The energy grows, the sound becomes compact, the concert takes shape”.
