Without Cri he posted on Instagram a shirtless photo, accompanied by a few words: “A stormy mind, but a clean heart, this is me. I can't wait to see you on stage”. Alongside that image, the artist placed another, taken last summer, in which he cries after removing the tape used for binding.
It is he himself, a non-binary artist, who explains the meaning of that comparison: “The photo in which I am crying corresponds to last summer, I had just destroyed myself with the tape. I send a hug to all the wonderful people who every day tailor their identity and their happiness. Maximum support. My story, yours”.
A year between the two photographs
The artist's gesture is important not only because it tells of a personal point of arrival. By showing both images, that of fatigue and that of today, Without Cri chooses not to remove the painful part of the journey, returning it as something that is crossed and not as something to hide.
The final message, aimed at those who are experiencing a similar journey, shifts the focus from self-talk to sharing: “My story, yours”.
These are words that reach a young audience, who Without Cri finds one of the few public references in Italy on these themes, which the artist had already touched on in our interview after Amici, talking about freedom and dualisms. It is therefore worth clarifying the terms that the artist himself uses.
Be one non-binary person it means not recognizing oneself in the distinction between man and woman, as he explained in the monologue a The Hyenas: “The gender identity of a non-binary person lies outside the male-female dichotomy”. THE pronouns they are instead the way in which a person asks to be named, and do not necessarily coincide with that distinction: Without Cri indicates the neutral and the masculine, and on its channels uses he/him. The tapefinally, it is the band used to compress the chest, a widespread practice among people for whom their shape causes discomfort.
Who is Without Cri
Without Criat the registry office Cristiana Carellais a singer-songwriter born in Toasts in 2000.
