Weezer add a new chapter to their discography. The Rivers Cuomo band's twentieth studio album, simply titled “Weezer,” will be released on August 21, 2026 by Reprise/Warner Records. The album arrives after the tour for the thirtieth anniversary of their debut, a sold-out tour during which the group performed the legendary “Blue Album” in its entirety. Once the concerts were over, the four musicians found themselves in Orange County, California, choosing to return to their original working method: a rehearsal room, instruments connected to amplifiers and the goal of writing new music by playing together.
It was precisely from those sessions that “Weezer” was born, an album that focuses entirely on the interaction between the band members. For the first time since their debut, Rivers Cuomo and drummer Pat Wilson collaborated directly on writing the bases of some songs, helping to give the album an imprint that the group describes as essential, energetic and spontaneous.
For the production, Weezer relied on two very different but complementary figures: Klas Åhlund and Kenneth Blume, formerly known as Kenny Beats. The former worked with a rigorous and meticulous approach, while the latter pushed the band towards a sound that was as direct and instinctive as possible, going so far as to define the project as “the most violent Weezer album ever”. The recording took place favoring live performances, without resorting to rhythmic grids or intonation corrections, to preserve all the energy of the performance.
According to the band, “Weezer” brings together all the elements that have characterized their artistic journey over the last thirty years, so much so that it seems like a sort of hypothetical collection of their greatest hits composed exclusively of unreleased songs. The lyrics alternate self-deprecating reflections on the passage of time, the band's legacy and the desire to continue playing, with songs that celebrate the role that Weezer continues to have as a point of reference for generations of musicians.
The announcement of the new album also follows that of the North American tour “Weezer: The Gathering”, a 32 concert tour that will accompany the album's release. Here is the tracklist for “Weezer”.
