Tim Curry Cause of Death Revealed as Coronary Artery Disease

Tim Curry‘s cause of death has been revealed to be coronary artery disease, according to documents from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reviewed by People.

The British actor died on Aug. 25 at the age of 80. The Rocky Horror Picture Show and It star reportedly had a history of kidney cancer and stroke. These conditions did not create an underlying cause that directly led to his death, though they were contributing factors. Curry did not undergo surgery to treat his cancer or stroke, which occurred in 2012.

Last year, Curry detailed his continued struggles with his health as a result of the stroke. “I still can’t walk, which is why I’m in this silly chair, and that’s very limiting,” he said at an anniversary screening of Rocky Horror. “So I won’t be singing and I won’t be dancing very soon. I still have real problems with my left leg.”

Later in his career, Curry primarily worked off-camera. He lent his voice to cartoons like FernGully: The Last Rainforest in 1992 and Star Wars: The Clone Wars in the early 2010s. He’d always liked playing around behind-the-scenes, having found himself being typecast as “butlers and villains” in U.S. films in the Nineties. He won a daytime Emmy for his vocal portrayal of Captain Hook in Peter Pan and the Pirates (1991), after which he spent two years voicing characters in the live-action cartoon series Dinosaurs.

“What an amazing career he had — one that gave us iconic characters to look up to, to fear, to laugh with, to sing with,” comedian Jillian Bell said about Curry in a tribute post following his death. “He will live on through every role.”
