Harrison Patrick Smith has all the air of being a predestined. He was born in West Hollywood in 1996, he grows in the Seattle area, where at an early age he undertakes the guitar and violin study, moves to Portland to attend college, specializing in English literature, finally moved to Williamsburg, Brooklyn trendy district where many artists live. Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, New York. If you have talent and breathe the atmosphere of these cities, you can absorb many inputs and get in touch with the people who matter: it is in these places that things happen. At one point Harrison founded Turtlenecked, College Band remained stamped in the American indie-rock undergrowth despite over five years of regular publications. Then the pandemic comes to block everything for a long time, and in 2022 Smith decided to reset everything to start in perfect solitude with a project to which he assigns the name The Dar. Smith is very good at slipping into the right situations, and it is also beautiful, perfect combination to be called often to animate the exclusive After parties with its DJ sets that follow the fashion shows of Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent.
On these occasions it is not complicated to cross characters with whom to baste interesting projects, and when in August 2022 The Dar Public “Girls”, the first single of the new artistic creature (followed the following year by “The Sex Ep”), Charli XCX is thus affected by that sound to want it at all costs as a producer – two years later – of “Guess” the duet with Billie Eilish who will enforce the final edition of “Brat”. The man behind the project The Dare at this point finds himself at the center of attention: he is even on the stage next to Charli in the iconic performance held by the English pop star during the award ceremony of the Grammy Awards 2025. In the meantime, in September 2024, Smith released the first album in the name of the Dare, “What's Wrong with New York?”, Which starts a slowly but becomes a longing, supported by the growing notoriety of the owner. In the promotional tour Harrison does not perform as the leader of a band (like the disc could make you imagine) but in the version one-man-showsinging on pre-registrative bases, with him to maneuver just a couple of keyboards. The Dago also ends up in the 2025 billboards of some of the most prestigious music festivals: Coachella, Spring Sound, Lollapalooza, Reading + Leeds.
“What's Wrong With New York?” It is a dance-punk sound-record, a disc that observes the LCD SoundSystem (“All Night” formula from afar to apply it to the “post-punk to dance” model recently from many British formations, such as Yard Act and Fat Dog. On EDM bases built with captivating grooves supported by deep bass (“You're invited”), tea graft a few electric guitar and further new-wave (“elevation”) references, Big Beat (“Movement”), Electroclash (“I Destroyed Disco”) and BritPop Pulp side (“You Can Never Go Home”). But the songs to be pointed out on the notebook, in addition to the already known “Girls”, those who seem the most successful, are “perfume” and “open up”. In 2025 “What's Wrong with New York?” He returns relevant again with the announcement of an extensive version that will be released on June 13, with three added tracks, including the new single “LCA”, in line with the mood of the ten songs already published, and the cover of “I Can't Escape MySelf” of the Sounds. The message is clear: return to clubs to have fun instead of staying in the bedroom to pretend to socialize in front of your smartphones.
