Buzzy menswear brand Noah is continuing its streak of Seventies and Eighties-inspired band tee drops with its latest collaboration, featuring graphic tees inspired by Australian New Wave icons INXS. The latest drop is inspired by some of the band's most popular songs, including “What You Need,” “Don't Change,” and “Never Tear Us Apart.”
Previous Noah collabs have included Thin Lizzy, the Cure, and Roxy Music, all featuring bold yet simple graphics on short-sleeve and long-sleeve tees. This iteration features two white short-sleeves, one white long-sleeve, and one black short-sleeve. The latter, inspired by “Never Tear Us Apart,” sold out in most sizes, although other styles still have sizes in stock as of this writing.
All of the shirts are printed in the US, making them pricier than the average band tee; the long-sleeve will set you back $88, while the short-sleeves are $68. In a statement announcing the release, Noah founder Brendon Babenzien said, “I was probably around 11 when I first heard INXS. The year would have been 1982. My brother had some friends who, in my eyes, were the coolest people I had ever met. They had a halfpipe and a launch ramp that I was occasionally allowed to skate. INXS was the soundtrack to those sessions.”
Noah, founded by Babenzien in 2015, has long drawn from music culture for its influences. “[Music is] the backdrop to kind of everything we do. To me, in all the different kinds of artistic expressions, they all conjure emotion. They all make you feel something. A film can make you cry, but a film is using multiple things at once to get there — it's got visuals, it's got sound, it's got writing, all at the same time,” said Babenzian in a 2021 interview with Rolling Stone. “But a song, all you have is the sound and maybe the words. I feel like it's the greatest expression of emotion out of all the artistic fields. It cuts to the emotion quicker than anything.”
As for INXS, they released their final album in 2010, but the height of their success was in the mid-1980s, with albums like Listen Like Thieves and, most notably, Kickwhich spawned the singles “Need You Tonight,” Never Tear Us Apart, and “Devil Inside.”
