For the series “But who cares about evolution?”here are the Ruyned Romanians. Founded in 2023, the young trio from Timisoara offers us a speed/thrash metal that is as furious as it is dedicated to celebrating the old-school approach – therefore, stylistic references to Exciter, Raven, Agent Steel and very early Sodom, Kreator and Destruction are abound – without failing to make everything even more brutal, extreme and dark through abundant injections of black/thrash from the Aura Noir, Bewitched and Nocturnal Breed school.
The result is the thirty minutes of irreverent, stretched and uncontainable fury that make up this “Profanum Sacrificium”, the second full-length by our band after the debut “Eternal Torment”, dated 2024.
As you will no doubt have understood, if you are looking for new, daring sonic ideas, dangerous technical/compositional intuitions or innovative, unexplored musical frontiers, you would do well to stay as far away as possible from this album and from Ruyned in general; the intent of the good Bogdan Mateescu (guitar and vocals), Tiberiu Olescher (bass) and Mihai Marinescu (drums) is simply to bombard your auricles and neuronal cells with the most furious, torrential and vicious music possible.
On the other hand, titles like “Sex N' Speed”, “Sex Commander 666” or “Orgasm Through Death” leave very little doubt regarding our approach to sound. Therefore, don't let yourself be fooled by the acoustic arpeggios of the intro called to throw open the doors of Ruyned's hell: the subsequent explosion of “Speedchain” will be enough to make things clear, between lightning-fast riffs, derailing drums and vitriolic vocals.
Ruyned immediately demonstrate that they are in possession of the necessary technique to avoid losing control of such fury, as well as that they have learned well the lesson imparted by their tutelary deities regarding the ability to channel their energy into effective, flowing and anthemic songs, graced by refrains that are as simple as they are functional; “Profanum Sacrificium” flows, in fact, beautifully, demonstrating once again how a band, so in love with a sound that has its roots in musical eras so distant in time, can compensate for a personality that is a little too tied to certain stylistic features with the ability to 'simply' write beautiful songs, capable of transmitting all the love of their authors for the sounds they belong to.
Hence the aforementioned “Speedchain”, “Sex N' Speed” and “Sex Commander 666”, as well as the equally overwhelming “Profanum Sacrificium”, “Malleus Maleficarum” and “Witches Gallöw”, if on the one hand they can elicit a condescending smile for their evident and widely heralded sonic anachronism and healthy conceptual 'naivety', on the other hand they are absolutely capable of give the willing listener just half an hour of highly ethyl, irreverent and blasphemous speed/thrash/black fun.
If we add to this that in the more controlled “Orgasm Through Death” Ruyned demonstrate that they know how to keep the adrenaline charge high even when the tempos become less urgent and the riffs more complex, you will understand how one cannot help but promote with conviction this “Profanum Sacrificium” which, if on the one hand it really does nothing to propose something new, on the other it completes its mission of destruction with convincing determination.
Not all bands were born to 'save the world', but in metal there will always be a need for 'water carriers' of this level: nothing to tear your hair out about, but a lot to let it float in abundant and enjoyable blows.
